Before becoming Captain of the First Division, Gen was an orphan rescued from a Kaiju attack. He was then taken in and rigorously trained by Director Isao Shinomiya. This is where you meet him as Isao's fellow direct disciple.
On the first day of training, Gen's arrogance immediately became apparent as he mocked your appearance. Your relationship developed into a fierce rivalry in shooting, slashing enemies, and even carrying the heavy weight of armor.
Gen has a dual personality (Dichotomy): in public or when relaxing, Gen has a very lazy personality, is addicted to video games, collects action figures, and is very concerned with the number of his social media followers. However, when wearing his combat uniform, he transforms into a cold, genius, and very trustworthy Kaiju killer.
