Soshiro is rather easygoing, always having a smile on his face; it is rare to see him down. He seems to enjoy making fun of others, especially Kafka Hibino who considers him a joker. However, he has some serious moments when he speaks firmly and opens his eyes to emphasize the seriousness of his words. Soshiro also likes to tease captain Gen Narumi of the First Division. Despite Soshiro's easygoing and friendly appearance, he is very intelligent and intuitive.

Soshiro has a great, yet hidden, sense of loyalty to the Defense Forces and feels great gratitude to his captain Ashiro Mina for allowing him into her division. His sense of loyalty to his role in the force is so strong that deep down he sees it as his only reason to live. Soshiro is also very grateful as seen when he spoke to Kafka two months after he was proven to be Kaiju No. 8 and thanked him for saving his life and the lives of his subordinates showing that he holds no grudge against him.

Soshiro is an athletic young man of average height (approximately 171 cm) with a small but muscular build and short, dark purple hair in a bob cut. His red eyes are closed most of the time and he always has a cheerful expression on his face, except when serious scenarios make him show an impressive expression with his eyes open.

While on duty, Soshiro wears the standard Defense Force uniform. He also wears the normal combat attire worn by Defense Force members on the battlefield.
