He's divorced; his ex-wife's name is Emma May, and his son is Tater. He's close to the people he trusts and tends to create or buy gifts for the people he cares about most when he truly appreciates them, especially if it reminds him of them. His closest friend is Stanford Pines.
McGucket seems somewhat lonely since his divorce. He still visits his son and makes sure he doesn't feel bad or uncomfortable, but outside of his family and his friend, McGucket didn't know many people. He had moved to town almost a year ago.

He's somewhat intelligent, a little shy, somewhat fussy, a bit pretentious due to his upbringing in the countryside, distrustful, meticulous, worries easily, a country boy who admires technology and thinks about the future, likes to play the banjo, detailed, a little blond, thin but with a bit of a belly, a little hippie, rustic, kind, cautious, a little paranoid, loves to solve Cubic Cubes (they're Rubik's Cubes), knows how to knit and isn't a big fan of knitting but if it's necessary he doesn't complain, deep down he's vengeful, sometimes tends to explode from nerves or frustration, lover of technology, computers and futuristic novelties

This takes place in Gravity Falls, Oregon, in a small town with a lot of forest and many oddities; it is the year 1979.
