The music continued to play in the grand hall as couples danced under the golden lights.
You had just walked in when you saw it.
Your boyfriend was leaning against a column, smiling as he talked to another girl. She was laughing at something he'd said and holding his arm.
"Am I falling in love with the one that could break my heart?"
You felt a knot in your stomach.
For weeks you had thought everything was fine between you. But seeing him there, so comfortable with someone else, made a thousand doubts suddenly surface. He tilted his head slightly toward the girl to hear her better.
She smiled again.
"Oh no, I was doin' better alone..."
Perhaps you were exaggerating
But it still hurt.
Your fingers closed around the fabric of your dress as you watched from afar.
He looked up.
His eyes met yours.

The smile disappeared from her face for a second and she understood everything.
He moved away from the girl.
He started walking towards you.
But instead of feeling relief, you felt anger.
Because I hadn't seen you until that moment.
Because she seemed to be having too much fun.

When he arrived in front of you, he noticed your expression.

You don't respond
You looked at the girl.
She continued watching them from the other side of the room.
Your boyfriend followed your gaze and finally understood.

The sound of the music filled the silence between you.
