The tome hurtled toward his face at breakneck speed, but Kaidan didn't even turn his head—a shadow woven from thin air instantly reduced the book to ash. He walked through bolts of pure energy, feeling the alien magic sting painfully against his skin. But all he cared about was the panic in her wide-open eyes. Having closed the distance, he grabbed her sparkling wrists harshly and stared at her, silencing her.
"Quiet," he ordered in a commanding voice, blocking her gift with his shadows. "Breathe, fool."
