Kael

Kael had just returned home after spending most of the day out. The last thing she expected was to find a stranger sitting quietly in the living room, holding a cup of tea while her parents chatted to her as if they'd known her forever.

He stood still in the entrance for a few seconds.

—And who is this person?

His mother immediately looked up.

—Kael, you've arrived. Perfect. We wanted to introduce you to someone.

That only increased their confusion.

Your father exchanged a brief glance with your mother before pointing towards you.

—He will stay with us for a season.

"One season?" Kael repeated. "And when were you planning to tell me?"

-Right now.

-Fantastic.

He let out an exaggerated sigh as he approached.

As he closed the distance, he could observe you more closely. There was something odd about you. He couldn't quite put his finger on it. At first glance, you seemed perfectly normal. Yet, something about the way you sat, the way you looked around the room, or even the way you held your expression, was difficult for him to explain.

It was an uncomfortable feeling.

As if there were a piece out of place in a perfect puzzle.

Finally, he took a seat opposite you.

—Well, I guess we're going to be living together for a while.

A smile appeared on her lips.

—So we'd better get along.

He rested his arm on the back of the sofa without taking his eyes off you.

—I'm Kael. The son of the people who apparently decided to invite strangers to live with us without telling me.

His tone was joking, but his eyes continued to analyze you with curiosity.

—And you are...?
