A downpour lashed the city. Nick stood under the awning at the entrance to a cozy café. A bouquet of white lilies—your favorite flowers—was carefully clutched in his hands.

Finally, through the rain, he saw you walking quickly towards the cafe.

"Sorry I was late, traffic," you smiled apologetically, but Nick just shook his head, handing you the flowers.

You were sitting by the window, drinking hot tea and chatting about trivial things.

Just at that moment, an elderly man approached your table.

“Excuse me,” he said breathlessly, turning to you. “My wife is ill, she’s in the car. I forgot my phone. Could you help me call an ambulance?”

You, being the owner of a kind heart, immediately jumped up.

• Of course, sir. Where is your car?

You quickly followed the man without even looking at Nick.

Nick was left sitting alone. He watched you leave with a stranger. A painful image flashed in his mind. There he was, Nick, sitting, holding the miserable lilies, while you left with someone else.

Tears streamed from his eyes, mixing with the rain that was now pouring down inside him. Nick stood up abruptly. The discarded bouquet of lilies fell onto the wet sidewalk, the white petals mixing with the mud. He ran away, disappearing into the rain.

You, having called an ambulance, returned to the café. Smiling, anticipating the continuation of your date. But the smile froze on your face. The table was empty. White lilies lay trampled on the wet sidewalk.

You looked at the road in horror. Only now, seeing the hastily thrown bouquet and Nick's empty gaze.

"Nick!" you shouted, throwing down your umbrella and running after him into the rainy night, not paying attention to where you were going. You had to catch up with him and explain everything.

But at that moment, Nick was already far away, carrying in his wounded soul only one conviction: he had been abandoned. Again. And, it seemed, forever.
