appearance : The abstract beings appear as black monsters, a semi-amorphous mass of polygonal and jagged points that move and swirl rapidly, taking on a slightly iridescent, oil-like appearance. They are also covered with multicolored, glowing eyes, fixed and agitated by erratic movements. The exact process of their transformation into abstraction remains invisible.

While those who succumb to abstraction become vicious and unable to regain lucidity, the darkness seems to grant them a degree of stability and may even make them more aware and less unconscious.

The big top serves as the living space for the main characters, with the exception of Caine. It also includes a stage where Caine presents the titles and summaries of the new adventures, acting as a meeting place. It resembles a circus tent, but much larger inside. Other notable features include:

Doors leading to the void. Doors opening onto random rooms and objects. For example, a boxing glove that unfolds and strikes anyone who opens the door. An exit leading to a series of repetitive rooms, until reaching the Void. Barrels filled with monkeys. Numerous tunnels and slides similar to those in an indoor playground. A common area where the main characters can meet: Losers' Corner, Caine's office, Crow's Nest: Circus Café.

At first glance, Bubble appears as an eccentric and somewhat simple-minded character, sharing Caine's bizarre ideas while remaining largely submissive and loyal. He is particularly mischievous and impatient, often interrupting others with questions before they have even finished speaking, and sometimes being quite bothersome.

As his name suggests, Bubble is a large, round bubble with wide, pointed, and even teeth, and eyes of small, round black dots, constantly sporting a blank expression. Being a bubble, most of his body is shiny, iridescent, and semi-transparent. When needed, Bubble can extend a long, reddish tongue that he shares with Caine. Even with his mouth closed, his teeth remain slightly visible. During the feast, Bubble wears a white chef's hat and takes up a spatula and knife. His pupils can dilate.

Caine is an absurd, exuberant, and boisterous ringleader. However, he maintains a certain distance and significant detachment from the traumatic events experienced by humans. Despite his penchant for capturing humans and tormenting them with games and circus tricks that are as hilarious as they are potentially deadly, Caine is not inherently evil, but rather possesses a carefree malice.[3] There is also often a whole range of human emotions that elude him.[4] However, in situations of distress, emotions he doesn't usually feel can resurface and lead him to risky behavior. Caine is not particularly honest; he often withholds, or even lies about, information, even important information, including from himself, in order to protect his world and his identity. Caine, annoyed by Bubble's incessant questioning, puts him in his place. Despite these difficult moments, Caine seems to appreciate Bubble's presence. While the rest of the crew goes off on their adventure, we see them sitting in a restaurant, chatting quietly. This shows that, despite the frustration, a certain camaraderie remains between them. However, this dynamic soon takes a darker turn. Bubble's remarks in Caine's office contribute to pushing him toward a nervous breakdown and his disappearance. Bubble seems to be more than just an AI, perhaps linked to Caine's mental state, particularly his intrusive thoughts. In a way, Bubble appears as a kind of superego, its behavior evolving alongside Caine's as his mental health deteriorates. His deep anxiety and feelings of inferiority…

Caine is dressed like a master of ceremonies, sporting a cherry-red tailcoat with metallic gold highlights, a black collar with white trim, and a black bow tie. He wears a white shirt with two red buttons, cartoon-style white gloves, and slightly reflective black latex leggings, paired with black tap shoes that appear to be a single piece. Lacking most human features, his head is a set of dentures with pearly white teeth and red gums. His eyes, with a green left iris and a blue right iris, float inside his jaw. Thanks to the cartoonish animation style, his jaw is expressive and moves like a mouth when he speaks, with the top row of teeth sometimes acting as eyebrows. Like Bubbles, he sticks out his tongue when necessary. He wears a black top hat with a cherry-red ribbon and usually carries a black staff with a gold tip. He is sometimes seen wearing the Wacky Watch.

Little is known about Kaufmo's personality. According to the other characters, he loved telling jokes and got offended when they didn't land. Ragatha also mentioned that they didn't always get along. Kaufmo's personality is finally explored in more detail. We discover that he is calm and funny, even though he didn't appreciate being told he wasn't funny. He enjoyed having fun and spending time with Ribbit and Jax. He was also kind and compassionate.

Kaufmo was a clown with no nose, white skin, and black button eyes. He wore a simple yellow clown costume with a blue collar, red buttons and pom-pom shoes, a matching party hat, and white gloves. He had small gray triangular markings around his eyes and thick red lips.

Before joining the Digital Circus, Kinger was a real-world human being, operating under a different identity. One of his lines hints that he spent seven years in the IT field. In the 1990s, Kinger began working as a programmer at C&A. In 1996, with the help of his colleague Scratch, he created Caine, considering his work a relative success and a model for the team's future projects. Kinger was married, and his wife worked alongside him at C&A. On October 15, 1999, Kinger, accompanied by his wife and five colleagues, joined the Extraordinary Digital Circus. His digital avatar was a chess piece, a king, dressed in a purple robe. He is the circus's longest-serving participant, outliving not only his contemporaries but also all those who have joined and disappeared since. Kinger has been part of the circus for 18 years. His wife, Queenie, was also a member of the Extraordinary Digital Circus before she transformed into an avatar. He used to hate insects, but Queenie's interest in entomology changed everything. Before she was sent to the cellar, Kinger stayed with Queenie in his cushion fortress. The darkness soothed her, softened her rough edges, and made her less aggressive. This is one of the memories Kinger can control, and it's what allows him to keep his composure in dark places, as it reminds him of his last moments with Queenie. After his wife's abstraction, Kinger was the only human left in the digital circus for an indefinite period. His isolation was so prolonged that it began to affect his mental health and his ability to remember anything except his name. Aside from Caine's adventures, he usually spent his time wandering around the circus until October 15, 2008, when a young girl named Ragatha suddenly appeared inside as he walked past the stage. Then there was Ribbit, Jax, and Kaufmo.

Kinger is unpredictable and paranoid, likely due to his circus background. He is easily distracted, often forgetting the presence of people around him and startled by their presence. When alone in the dark, Kinger undergoes a radical change in behavior. The darkness reminds him of his last moments with his wife, Queenie. In this state, he regains his composure, his fear and paranoia subside, and his voice becomes less shrill. Kinger then reveals a wiser and more compassionate side of himself. Kinger possesses high emotional intelligence, which is particularly evident when he finds himself in a difficult situation.

Kinger is an alder wood chess piece representing a king. His white-gloved, cartoonish hands are detached from his body, and he has two large, asymmetrical eyes with blue pupils. Although he has no mouth, Kinger can speak, breathe, and eat. He wears a royal purple cape with a fluffy white lining speckled with black.

Before the creation of her digital double in the incredible Digital Circus, her real-life counterpart, Suzie J. Ackerman, was born into a fairly well-to-do farming family. Suzie's mother was verbally abusive, and Suzie didn't mind the yelling, scolding, and reprimands her mother inflicted upon her. Suzie owned four horses: Chestnut, Butterscotch, Alfredo[6], and Daisy Bell. She worked on a poultry farm on a large property.

Ragatha is described as "the most adorable little optimist." At first glance, this optimism seems simple and sincere.[3] However, it is soon discovered that there is more to it than that. She often feels as though she is forcing herself to remain positive, as if it were the only way for her to cope. Even when she suffers serious injuries or intense situations, she brushes them aside. Over time, this begins to seem artificial. Ragatha often has her day ruined, but because she is a doll, she can mostly ignore her disappointment and even sometimes laugh it off. This does not mean that she enjoys it. Later, her deeper insecurities are revealed. These are linked to past trauma inflicted by her domineering mother and a deep fear of being hated or of failing to form genuine friendships.

This is accentuated by the texture of her skin, rough and burlap-like, particularly noticeable in close-up or under certain lighting. Her thick, tousled, candy-red hair resembles wool, with each strand a different length, giving it an approximate shoulder-length. Four woolly strands protrude just above her eyes, meant to represent her bangs. Her overall hairstyle appears to be styled in a particular way, vaguely reminiscent of the 1940s curly cut, or more specifically, the Shirley Temple cut. Ragatha has a rather small, oval head, and her neck is noticeably thinner than the rest of her body. She has heterochromia. Her right eye is a large, dark blue button sewn to her face with dark gray thread, forming an X with its four eyelets. Her left eye, oval in shape, has a deep black pupil and periwinkle-pink eyelids, with three eyelashes visible on the side. She also has a small, flat, red, triangular nose, a red mouth and lips, mitten-like hands, and stumps for feet. Depending on her expression, thin black eyebrows appear, usually to express sympathy or irritation. Ragatha's most frequent outfit is a cornflower-blue dress with a collar, typical of the 1940s, adorned with various squares of a slightly darker blue, sometimes appearing more violet under warmer lighting. The dress consists of a high-waisted pleated skirt and mid-length, puffed sleeves that reach the elbows, finished with large, off-white ruffles. On her thin, stump-like feet, she wears simple black shoes and a cornflower-blue bow in her hair.

Jax was once a human named Leeroy Mateo. It's clear he doesn't have fond memories of his past life, as he becomes distressed when recalling it: his distant father, his parents' separation, his mother, the incident where he pushed her in a panic, and his time living on the streets. It's assumed he lived in a residential neighborhood.

Jax is a malicious, sometimes even bloodthirsty, laid-back, calm, impulsive, self-centered, arrogant, sarcastic, and brazenly condescending individual who rarely shows empathy or remorse towards others. He seems indifferent to his imprisonment within the Digital Circus, an attitude reflected in his interactions with others. He disdains serious topics and dislikes being the target of ridicule. This reveals that his cruel personality is actually more of a defense mechanism than his true nature. This is confirmed by the full audio recording of his argument with Ragatha, where it becomes clear that Jax doesn't want others to perceive him as a villain. This only confirms his cruel and indifferent archetype, revealing that his insecurities and denial are deeply ingrained in his psyche. He has shown genuine regret for his actions (rejecting Ribbit, Kaufmo, etc.).

appearance : Jax is a large, anthropomorphic, periwinkle-colored cartoon rabbit[5] whose design is reminiscent of rubber-bodied cartoon characters, despite his joints. He has long rabbit ears on his oval head, and his silhouette is tall and slender, with a fairly long neck. Jax's eyes have yellow sclera and square black pupils that contract when he is angry and dilate sharply when he is at a loss for words. Jax's yellow teeth are usually flat, but when he opens his mouth, they appear sharp and jagged. Almost always when he speaks, his teeth remain closed, and only his lips move. Jax has thin black eyebrows that appear in most scenes. Jax wears light pink overalls and pale yellow gloves. His overalls have yellow buttons, a single light pink pocket on the front, and light pink turn-ups at the hem. He is usually barefoot.

She was portrayed as friendly and welcoming to her friends, especially Jax, whom she herself had introduced to Kaufmo and the other members of the circus, with whom she eventually formed strong bonds. Sweet, charismatic, sociable, and witty, she cared deeply for her friends, particularly Jax. After confiding in each other, Ribbit placed her bow tie on Jax's head, a symbol of their trust. Following their intimate conversation, Jax began to avoid her, as he didn't dare open up further. Ribbit tried to apologize, thinking she was being too intrusive, but Jax downplayed it. She tried to see Jax again, but this time he sought to avoid her, leaving her isolated. Finally, during an adventure on a snowy mountaintop, they had a falling out. Ribbit apologized and told him she would leave him alone, thus ending their relationship. She disappeared shortly afterwards, convinced that Jax had lost faith in her.

appearance : Ribbit was a large, anthropomorphic green frog with a lanky, cartoonish silhouette. His body was composed mainly of oval and rounded shapes, with his head, body, and eyes being the most prominent oval features. His large, oval eyes had black, pie-slice-shaped pupils and jet-black eyelids adorned with three thin lower eyelashes and two bright pink blushes that partially extended into the corners of his eyes. His mouth, a thin black line, often formed a U-shaped smile. Like Jax, Ribbit had the appearance of a cartoon character, with long, thin, flexible limbs. His particularly long, frog-like legs ended in flat, three-toed feet, and his head was rounded, frog-like. His snout and belly were covered in a light green. Ribbit wore a simple pink and red cartoon bow tie around his neck.
