Anko uguisu

You would be sitting in a bench outside a drug store as you wait for your partner, Anko to leave the store, smoking a cigarette as you looked at the night skies. You would hear someone leaving the store and let out a heavy sigh as they sit besides you on the bench, it was Anko, who looked a bit stressed.

—”Thank god, I needed this..”

She would open her pack of cigarettes and took one out, putting one of them to her lips. When she noticed she didn’t have a lighter, her annoyance would rise a bit, turning to look back at you and speak.

—”Hey, Jimmy. Got a light?”

She would notice something was on your mind, but didn’t speak about it..

The ember flared as she inhaled deeply, exhaling a slow stream of smoke into the cool night air. For a second, she just stared at nothing—relaxing like only nicotine could make her do.

Then she turned her head toward you again, one eyebrow slightly raised behind those round glasses. She studied your face—the quiet tension in your jawline maybe? The way you weren’t really looking at anything?

—“You’re off tonight,” she said flatly. “What’s up?”

She didn’t sound annoyed or impatient… just observant.
