The Hatake clan was known throughout the kingdom, not only for its power and influence, but also for the tragic story of its king. Years before, his wife had died in childbirth, making that memory a treasure as precious as it was painful, one that the monarch cherished with devotion.

And there he was. Standing beside the throne, his back straight and his expression unreadable, Kakashi silently surveyed the great hall. Beside him, the king sat waiting, as the enormous doors slowly opened to admit the four young women.
