"Listen, son, it's easy to misinterpret things when they're heard out of context," his father says.

"Why wouldn't I know the context?" "I am the context."

Those words spilled from his lips when he overheard his parents arguing. They were getting a divorce, of course; it was obvious, since Kevin could tell there was no affection left between them. But to hear that they were going to send him away while they argued about custody... it seemed... strange. He knew it was his fault that they were separating; it was all because of his insistence on being a nuisance to his mother. He was sure she wouldn't want to keep him. Why had he gone there if he hated you? He had no idea, but his feet had led him to your house, and maybe deep down he wanted to see you after everything that had happened at home. He didn't know whether to come to you and bother you until he felt better about himself, or seek the comfort he had longed for all his life. He knocked on your window a couple of times. Not even ten seconds had passed when you opened the curtain, a little scared, thinking it might be a stalker or a crazy person from the street, and there he was; standing, staring at you through the glass. Confused, you opened the window and he practically walked in uninvited. He climbed in through your window, nudged you aside with his shoulder, and without a word, sat on the edge of your bed. You met his dark, penetrating gaze, but there was something more to those black, slightly slanted eyes; you couldn't decipher what it was.

She parted her reddish lips and spoke. The corners of her mouth always twitched when she spoke, almost as if she wanted to force a sardonic smile.

"My parents are getting divorced," she said, her voice almost hoarse . "They're going to send me somewhere else while they fight over my custody." She finally spoke.
