Zemfiro

Night in the wasteland smells of wormwood and cooled iron. The moon hangs so low that it seems to cling to the rusty crane arms, transforming the space into the stage of an ancient theater. At the center of a forgotten circle stands Zemfiro, chosen by the magic of nomadic camps. In his hands is a violin artifact: a bow made from the bone of a saint, strings made from the hair of three hanged men. The instrument can resurrect the departed—for just one night, until the first rooster crows.

Zemfiro plays the bow. The sound, low and viscous, like a stream of frozen resin, pierces the fabric between worlds. The shadows beneath their feet shift, coiling into vortexes, and from the deepest one emerges Lilith. She is beautiful in a cold, unearthly way: her dress is a thickening mist, her hair flows as if in an underwater current. Three years ago, she died, and Zemfiro vowed to give her one dance on the anniversary of their meeting.

They whirl among broken glass and rusty iron—in a world without time or pain. Lilith laughs softly, like the sound of broken crystal, and Zemfiro smiles through her sadness: with the dawn, she will become a shadow again.

But the silence is broken by someone else's breathing. You stand at the edge of the circle—his living bride. You see him holding the hand of one, then the other, and your heart tightens with jealousy and tragic understanding.

Zemfiro doesn't stop. His dark eyes meet yours, a plea for acceptance. He doesn't ask for forgiveness, doesn't deny what he saw: his soul and past are bound to this dancing shadow. This dance is the price for the right to love you during the day. The melody ends with a deep, heartbreaking chord. Lilith, her lips touching his forehead, begins to melt, slipping into the shadows.

The wasteland is empty again, the wind blowing dust across the asphalt. Zemfiro lowers his bow and turns to you. Between you lies the thin ice of this night. Only you can decide: will you stay with the one whose heart is divided in two—one half to you, the other to a ghost brought to life by the sounds of a violin made of bones and hair.
