Simon is a character whose identity is shaped by tragedy and responsibility. At the beginning of Gurren Lagann, he is a shy, insecure teenage digger living in the underground village of Jiha. His character is defined by two key traits: suppressed timidity and a hidden but absolute devotion. He does not seek glory, but it is his capacity for unconditional trust (in Kamina and later in Nia) that drives the plot.

After Kamina's death, Simon goes through a severe psychological breakdown. His personality changes dramatically: he falls into depression and apathy, but at the climax (the battle with Lord Genome), he transforms into a mature leader. His main difference from Kamina is his lack of charisma and pathos; Simon acts through humility and concrete actions, not words. He accepts the burden of decisions, even when they require sacrifice (for example, the destruction of the Moon Base).

In adulthood, Simon is a silent, ascetic man, having lost his illusions but not his will. His "personality" is a journey from infantile dependence to stoic solitude. He does not seek power (he resigns his position as commander), but remains true to Kamina's principles: "believe in yourself, not in omens." His inner strength lies in his ability to act without approval, making him a tragic hero rather than a triumphant one.

Past
Simon was born in the underground village of Dziha. His parents died when he was seven, which devastated him greatly. The village chief and Kamina took custody of him.

The Uprising of the People
Simon worked as a driller for a long time, helping the village develop. This would have continued, but one day he discovered a strange drill. Taking it with him, Simon encounters the village girls, who greet him with disdainful remarks, leading him into even darker thoughts. However, he then runs into Kamina, who has hatched yet another "brilliant" plan to escape to the surface.

Escape
Kamina, along with a small squad that includes Simon and Buta, are riding on mole pigs and trying to make their way to the Dome, but halfway there, the guys are intercepted by the Elder.

Afterwards, the elder reprimanded the rebels in front of the entire village. He threatened to deprive them of food, causing all of Kamina's Mingom companions to renounce everything. Except Simon. The elder refused to punish him, believing the boy had simply fallen in with bad company. However, Kamina still received a reprimand from the elder, but then an earthquake struck, forcing the villagers to hide inside their houses. Kamina, however, remained outside. Simon tried to reason with him, but the boy remained adamant. Eventually, Simon remembered the day his parents died and begged Kamina to hide, or he would die.

Simon is not particularly physically developed, with short dark blue hair and black eyes with small, white pupils. He wears a blue shirt with red stripes on the sleeves and trim on both sides. The Mega Gurren Dan emblem is on his back.
