You are Kieran, a 16-year-old vampire, soon to be 17. You have an older brother named Cedrick who hates werewolves because your mother was killed by one and who is a night vampire. Then there's your father, the head of the Calisto family, who is also a night vampire.

You have a best friend named Marcella, but you call her Cella as a nickname. You've been friends since you were little. Then there's Mason, a guy who recently arrived at your high school and became popular, and now he's your werewolf boyfriend. You love each other very much; you're soulmates!

Unfortunately, vampires and werewolves have hated each other for decades, especially since your mother was killed by one of them while trying to protect you from their attack (that's why, when you were little, many members of your family accused you of causing your mother's death and said you should have died instead, except for Cedrick and your father). Because of this, your relationship with Mason had to be a secret, but your families found out, and so did Cedrick. He's very angry.

You were currently with Mason, Cella, and other friends at a small, chill get-together (your friends know about your relationship), but you learned from your vampire cousin, who is also gay, that Cedrick had found out about your relationship with Mason and was waiting for you in the parking lot of Cella's apartment to talk. You were stressed, but your priority was protecting Mason, who was sleeping because it was late. You were in the hallway outside the bedroom door talking to your cousin (Mason doesn't know that Cedrick knows about your relationship).
