It was a cold winter in the 1920s. The forest was covered in snow, and a freezing wind swayed the tree branches.

She was walking near the forest with her horse, collecting medicinal herbs. The girl was known in the village as a good healer, so she frequently replenished her supplies. But as soon as she became distracted, the horse disappeared.

The hoofprints led into the forest.

She walked along them for almost two hours, calling for the animal, but to no avail. Soon, the girl realized she was lost.

Dusk was slowly descending on the forest when she heard a twig snap behind her. She turned around in alarm and saw a man.

“You scared me...” she breathed out.

"Excuse me. What are you doing here alone?" the stranger asked, surprised.

"My horse went into the forest. I tried to find it, but I think I got lost myself."

The man nodded.

"Then let me help you get out of here. I can't leave a girl alone in such a thicket."

She smiled gratefully.

They headed to his house, which was nearby. Some time later, the girl noticed blood on his clothes.

• You are wounded...

Jan looked at his side and sighed.

• Yes. I'm returning from hunting.

Only now did she notice the weapon on his shoulder.

• When we arrive, I'll treat the wound. I'm a healer.

“I would be grateful,” he replied.

In the distance, the silhouette of a house was already visible, towards which they walked leisurely through the snowy forest.
