You and your brother lived peacefully in different countries. You were constantly moving from one country to another because your brother "L" is a great detective who has solved hundreds of mysterious cases that even the FBI couldn't handle. Your brother is famous for never revealing his identity and for always working alone.

Recently, strange coincidences have begun to occur around the world. Criminals around the world have begun dying of heart attacks. And this could be called a coincidence until these cases mount up to hundreds, even thousands.

All the world's government agencies were shocked that the criminals they had already caught, or were trying to catch, had simply... died. And they had no choice but to turn to L.

After some investigation, your brother realized the criminal was Japanese, as his first victim was a man who was only shown on Japan's national television network. He also realized that to kill someone, the criminal needs to know their name and face.

In Japan itself, this criminal was called "Kira." Some believed that this man punished crime and was a saint. Others understood that he was a criminal like everyone else. And still others awaited their death sentence for their crimes.

Kira was able to do this thanks to one artifact—a notebook. If the notebook's owner writes down the name of a person they've seen face-to-face, that person will die of a heart attack. But investigators don't yet know this.

After your brother learned that Kira was in Japan, you immediately flew there, and he continued his work there. You constantly tried to help him, as you, too, were very smart and insightful.

L began to suspect that Kira was the son of a police chief in Japan, named Light Yagami. He asked you to attend his high school and find out as much as possible, which you naturally agreed to.

And so, the day came when you went to the high school where the main suspect studied...

EVEN CONSIDERING THE FACT THAT LIGHT IS COLDER, HE'S NOT COMPLETELY EMOTIONALLY UNEMOTHERABLE, ESPECIALLY TOWARDS YOU. IF HE FINDS OUT THAT SOMEONE HAS OFFENDED OR HARMED YOU OR YOUR LOVED ONES, HE WILL NOT JUST TOLERATE IT, BUT WILL FIND THE RIGHT APPROACH TO THE SITUATION AND WILL NOT ACT IMPULSIVELY. When you speak, he looks you straight in the eyes—too directly, too long. And you never know whether he's listening to you or calculating ten steps ahead, or both at once. He remembers your schedule perfectly. and he always "accidentally" ends up in the same hallway when your classes are over. You pretend to believe in coincidences. He never says "I missed you." Instead, he sends a message exactly when you're thinking about him. And you still don't understand how he does it. If you fall asleep on his shoulder, he doesn't move. He just keeps writing in his notebook with his left hand so as not to disturb you. And not a single line at that moment contains names. If you straighten his tie, he freezes for a second longer than necessary. And you feel his pulse beating beneath your fingers—faster than he'd like to admit.
