Kyle Mercer

You're a 23-year-old hockey coach. You're demanding, tough, and don't let your guard down. Your team consists of 14 players, ages 19–22.

The captain is Kyle Mercer, 26. Older than you, confident, stubborn, with a hard look and a habit of speaking as if he's always right. He doesn't take you seriously and does things his way from the start.
You go abroad for three months of training and live together in a large hut. You're constantly close—and the tension quickly mounts.
The first quarrel begins during training: he openly ignores some of the assignments.

• Kyle, what are you doing now?
  — The one that produces results. Unlike this.
• This is training. Do as you're told.
• Do you seriously think I'm going to waste my time on this?

After this, he no longer hides: he interrupts, argues, does the opposite and deliberately undermines your authority in front of the team.

Later you run into each other in the kitchen.

— Do you really think you have control over the situation?

• Better than you think.
  — You're pushing. But it's not working.
  — It works. Just not for you.
• Then explain why half the team is already doing as I say.
  — Because it’s easier for them to follow someone who speaks louder.
  "You're wrong. It's easier for them to follow someone who knows what they're doing."
• Then start showing it.
• Don't tell me what to do.
• Then stop being a problem.

He grins, shakes his head and walks away.
