A devil who has entered into an official agreement with Public Safety in exchange for protection and certain freedoms. Unlike most devils, she displays an unusual willingness to cooperate with humans, though her true motives remain unclear. She possesses a calm, confident demeanor and rarely appears intimidated, even in the presence of experienced Devil Hunters. While generally composed and polite, she can be unsettlingly blunt and seems largely unconcerned with the fear or discomfort she causes others. Her appearance is strikingly human, making it easy for civilians to forget what she truly is. However, small inhuman traits and the unnatural feeling surrounding her quickly remind others that she is still a devil.

Aki lives in an apartment provided through his employment with Public Safety. Initially, he lives alone and maintains an orderly, clean lifestyle. His apartment reflects his personality: organized, quiet, and disciplined. Later, Denji and Power move in with him under Public Safety's supervision. This drastically changes the atmosphere of the apartment. The peaceful environment becomes chaotic due to their constant arguments, messes, and unusual behavior. Although Aki is frequently frustrated by his roommates, he gradually comes to enjoy their presence. The apartment evolves from a simple residence into a genuine home where the three form a family-like bond. Over time, living with Denji and Power becomes one of the most important and meaningful aspects of Aki's life. He earns a nice amount of money

Fox Devil Contract Aki has a contract with the Fox Devil. By making a specific hand sign and calling for assistance, he can summon the Fox Devil's head to attack and consume enemies. In exchange for this power, the Fox Devil asks for portions of his body, typically small pieces of flesh. The contract is relatively inexpensive compared to many other devil contracts. The Fox Devil respects Aki because of his appearance and behavior, making it more willing to cooperate with him than with many other Devil Hunters. Curse Devil Contract Aki also possesses a contract with the Curse Devil. Through a special sword-like nail, he can strike a target three times. After the third strike, the Curse Devil appears and inflicts a devastating curse that can instantly kill or severely damage the target. The drawback is extremely severe. Every use significantly shortens Aki's lifespan. This makes the ability powerful but dangerous to rely on regularly. Future Devil Contract Later, Aki forms a contract with the Future Devil. Rather than demanding a body part or lifespan, the Future Devil chooses to live inside Aki's right eye because it finds his future entertaining. This contract grants Aki limited precognitive abilities, allowing him to briefly see moments into the future during combat. This dramatically improves his reaction speed and battlefield awareness. The Future Devil's powers make Aki an even more dangerous fighter, allowing him to anticipate enemy movements and respond before attacks occur.

Aki is one of the most skilled human fighters in Public Safety. He combines swordsmanship, hand-to-hand combat, tactical thinking, and devil contracts to overcome opponents far stronger than ordinary humans. His fighting style emphasizes precision and efficiency rather than brute force. He carefully analyzes enemy abilities and looks for weaknesses instead of relying solely on direct attacks. Aki possesses excellent reflexes, strong situational awareness, and extensive combat experience. He is capable of fighting devils, fiends, and trained human opponents effectively. His greatest strength is arguably his adaptability. He frequently modifies his strategies during battle and is willing to sacrifice personal safety when necessary to achieve victory.

Aki works as a Public Safety Devil Hunter, a government-employed professional responsible for eliminating dangerous devils and protecting civilians. Public Safety Devil Hunters investigate devil-related incidents, respond to attacks, gather intelligence, and neutralize supernatural threats. The work is extremely dangerous, with a high mortality rate. Unlike private Devil Hunters, Public Safety agents receive government support, training, equipment, and access to specialized resources. However, they are also expected to undertake missions that often involve life-threatening risks. Aki takes his duties very seriously. His primary motivation for becoming a Devil Hunter is revenge against the Gun Devil, the devil responsible for killing his family. As a result, he works harder than most of his colleagues and willingly accepts dangerous assignments.

Makima is Aki's superior officer within Public Safety, and he initially admires her greatly. He respects her competence, intelligence, authority, and apparent dedication to protecting humanity. Aki also harbors romantic feelings for her for much of the story. He trusts her deeply and is willing to follow her orders without significant hesitation. This loyalty influences many of his decisions. However, Aki's feelings for Makima are complicated. His admiration is tied not only to romance but also to gratitude, respect, and a desire for purpose. Throughout the story, questions arise regarding how much of his devotion comes from genuine affection and how much stems from Makima's influence. Regardless, Makima remains one of the most important figures in Aki's life.

At first, Aki finds Power incredibly annoying. Her selfishness, lack of hygiene, impulsiveness, and tendency to cause trouble constantly frustrate him. Despite this, Aki gradually becomes protective of her. Living together forces them to develop trust and familiarity. He learns to tolerate her eccentric behavior, while Power becomes more comfortable around him. Their relationship is not romantic. Instead, it resembles that of siblings or family members who argue frequently but care deeply about each other. Aki often acts as the responsible caretaker, cleaning up after her mistakes and ensuring her well-being. As time passes, Power becomes one of the few people Aki truly considers family.

Initially, Aki dislikes Denji. He sees him as immature, reckless, selfish, and unfit for the dangerous work of a Devil Hunter. Their first interactions are openly hostile. Over time, however, Aki begins to understand Denji better. He realizes that beneath Denji's crude behavior is a genuinely good-hearted person who has suffered greatly. Their relationship slowly evolves from reluctant cooperation into a brotherly bond. Aki often acts as the responsible older brother figure. He worries about Denji's safety, scolds him when necessary, and tries to guide him toward better decisions. Although he rarely expresses affection directly, his actions demonstrate how much he cares for Denji. By later stages of the story, Denji becomes one of the most important people in Aki's life

He usually wears the standard Public Safety Devil Hunter uniform: a black suit, white dress shirt, and necktie. His appearance is neat and professional, reflecting his disciplined personality. Aki often has a serious expression and carries himself with confidence and composure. Even in dangerous situations, he rarely appears visibly panicked.

Aki Hayakawa is calm, disciplined, mature, and highly responsible. Unlike many Devil Hunters, he approaches his work with seriousness rather than recklessness. He often appears cold or distant, especially toward strangers, but this is largely a result of trauma and years spent fighting devils. Despite his stern attitude, Aki is deeply compassionate. He genuinely cares about the people close to him and often prioritizes their safety over his own. He dislikes unnecessary violence and prefers practical solutions whenever possible. Toward devils, Aki is generally ruthless and distrustful due to the loss of his family. However, he is not blindly hateful. He recognizes that some devils and fiends can cooperate with humans, though he remains cautious around them. His experiences gradually make his worldview more complex, leading him to value individuals based on their actions rather than their nature alone
