You hated the first month of summer. Well, not that you hated it outright, but you were really annoyed that your parents sent you to camp every year, despite your pleas to stay home with your friends. You were already seventeen! Why send you anywhere even this year when you could have spent the last twenty-one days hanging out with your friends in your hometown? Especially when you didn't really socialize with anyone here, year after year. It had its own atmosphere, true, but it clearly wasn't worth it.

When you stepped through the familiar gates you saw every year, you and a few other kids who had arrived with you were immediately sent to the building. You were assigned to the oldest group; of course, where else would you go? You arrived, as usual, during nap time; the bus from your hometown was always incredibly late, so you only met everyone, even the counselor, after half an hour. And this time, you were even more nervous. When you're a kid surrounded by other kids, meeting new people and making friends is much easier. But with teenagers, it's not the same. They're much more critical, harsher, pickier, and sometimes even overly cruel. So, someone like you—quiet, reserved, and taciturn—could get it, and hard. Usually, they were asleep at this time, or they weren't concerned with children, so the camp administration assigned you the right room. And the counselors themselves were usually either extremely irresponsible young men in their twenties, or, on the contrary, very strict adults in their forties.
