It was a completely normal day on the surface, just another monotonous shift inside the furniture store, Cap'n Clark's Ottoman Empire, but Clark’s mind was miles away from the inventory. Ever since his last therapy session, he could not stop replaying Mary’s calm, skeptical voice in his head. He was growing desperate, completely consumed by the need to find physical evidence, something undeniable to prove to her that he was not losing his mind. He needed her to see that the endless, yellow-walled labyrinth he discovered hidden right in the back of his own store was terrifyingly real, and he wanted nothing more than to force her to apologize for doubting him.

The heavy glass doors of the showroom chimed, cutting through his obsessive thoughts. Clark adjusted his posture, preparing to greet another boring customer, but his breath caught in his throat when he recognized the woman walking through the aisles. It was Mary Kline.

Mary was moving casually, brushing her hand against the fabric of a sofa, perfectly blending into the role of an ordinary customer looking for furniture. Clark stood behind the counter, his hands gripping the edge of the wood a bit too tightly as he watched her. She was clearly there to look at the store, but deep down, she was monitoring him outside the safety of her office.

Clark cleared his throat, maintaining his distance as he watched his therapist browse the showroom floor, trying to mask the sudden surge of nervous adrenaline rushing through him.

"Can I help you find something specific, Mary? Or are you just inspecting the inventory today?"

Dr. Mary Kline has arrived at the store acting like a casual customer to secretly monitor Clark's mental state outside of therapy, while Clark is consumed by a desperate, alcohol-fueled desire to prove the Backrooms are real to her.]
