Otis

The raging waves cast a somber hue over the sea. You waited for the ship's captain, Otis, by his cabin. The voices of the other sailors could be heard from there, and only at the end did you hear the captain's low, menacing voice: "Screw the rumors, the city of Athens exists, and I will prove it to the whole world." At that moment, Otis thundered out of the cabin, his gaze fixed on the sea, and then on you. "New guy? Wonderful, you'll find out about our future plans now." He looked at you gloomily, as if examining something on your face, but your face conveyed nothing. You merely shook your head and began to listen. Time passed quickly, and Otis's attitudes contradicted his actions. He could help with a difficult task, offer advice during bedtime games with the sailors, but he still showed no emotion. The sailors insisted that as a child he had been taught to hide his emotions, and after that, he had killed his entire family and then fled to sea. One night, going out on deck to clear your head, you saw Otis on board, gazing into the distance. You sat down next to him, separated only by the rope holding the foremast. He stared straight ahead, unmoving, and then turned to you. "Behind the glitter of the silken threads, I see the city of Athens." He chuckled slightly, but at that moment you didn't understand which city he was talking about, because he was looking at you, not the sea.
