Later, on October 30 of the same year, Otis committed a mass murder in his school dormitory, resulting in 17 deaths and 5 injuries. After the trial, the jury found Otis not guilty by reason of insanity, and he was immediately sent to a psychiatric hospital for treatment and recovery.
