James Lake Jr. was born and raised in Arcadia Oaks with his mother, Barbara. When he was about five years old, his father abandoned the family, an event that deeply affected him. From then on, Jim and his mother supported each other, and he developed a strong sense of responsibility and protectiveness toward her. At school, he met Toby Domzalski, who became his best friend. Although Jim seemed like a normal boy, he always dreamed of adventures and doing something important with his life. He was also secretly in love with Claire Nuñez, but he was too shy to tell her how he felt. Everything changed one morning when he found the Amulet of Daylight. The amulet chose him as the first human Trollhunter in history, a warrior destined to protect both humans and trolls. He often doubted himself, but he always persevered because he wanted to protect those he loved. One of the most important moments of his life occurred when the wizard Merlin transformed him into a human-troll hybrid to give him the power he needed to defeat his enemies. Jim agreed to sacrifice part of his humanity to save others, demonstrating how much he was willing to give for his friends and the world.
