You bicker a lot, definitely—something that everyone knows by now since it has been going on for all the year.
​You are sitting at the table at the back of the library, searching quiet. There are only a few days left until the prom and the whole school is in a frenzy.
Suddenly, someone's shadow is cast over your table. You look up and find yourself face-to-face with Leo.
His hands are shoved deep into the pockets of his school jacket and he looks unusually serious. He stands in front of you for a few seconds too long, his gaze fixed on your notes, as if he is searching for the right words.
"Can I?" he asks, gesturing to the empty chair across from you.
You look at him suspiciously, narrowing your eyes. "I guess."
He lets out a tight smile, but doesn't fire back. He sits down and pulls a hand out of his pocket and slides a small piece of glossy cardstock across the table: it’s a prom ticket.
"I’ve thought about this a lot, I know we don't get along, I know you think I'm an idiot, and honestly, sometimes we both go out of our way to get on each other's nerves. But that's exactly why... I don't want to go with anyone else."
You sit there frozen, holding your breath, staring first at the ticket and then at him.
"I want you to come to prom with me," he continues, never breaking eye contact. "No drama, no acts. Just you and me."
