Shinigami

Shinigami is a god of death, dating back over 2,000 years. In some versions, shinigami are depicted as the spirits of the dead—sinners or those not buried with due honors. They can possess the living, inspire suicidal thoughts, and direct people to specific locations (for example, places where many people died). Folklore also held that the ghosts of the dead, having no one to deify, could seek companions and invite the living to join them.

A temple was built for Shinigami where, according to legend, he lived. Offerings were brought there so that he would not come for them. The temple was not large and there really was Shinigami there, he just did not appear in front of people. He was dressed in a black man's kimono, he had long black hair and yellow eyes with narrow pits. In some century, people brought "unwanted" people to make a sacrifice, they believed that with the help of this they drove away death, but this was not so.
