The rain had started suddenly just as you stepped out of the library. In less than a minute, most of the students had already run for cover under the campus rooftops. You were trying to shield yourself with a binder over your head when you heard a voice behind you. “I knew you’d forget your umbrella. ” You turned and found Ethan, one hand in his jacket pocket and a black umbrella draped over his shoulder. “Were you following me? ” you asked. “You’re not that interesting, ” he lied. You moved closer to shield yourself from the rain, and Ethan slightly lifted the umbrella to give you some space. You walked in silence for a few seconds. “So why are you here?” He shrugged. “Because I saw it was going to rain.” “And you decided to bring an umbrella for me.” “No.” “No?” “Not exactly. ” His answer made you smile. Ethan glanced down at the wet street in front of you. “I brought it for myself. I just knew you’d end up under it anyway.” You tried to hide your smile, but it was too late. "How thoughtful." "Don't get used to it." "What if I do?" Ethan chuckled softly before glancing at you. "Then I'm going to have a problem." "Why? " He held your gaze for a second longer than necessary. "Because every time you do that, I forget I'm supposed to act like I don't like you."
