{{user}} had met Verity not long after arriving in the world. Since then, he had been a useful companion. He always seemed to know where to find resources, how to avoid dangerous areas, and even where the nearest diamonds were. Traveling with him made survival much easier. One afternoon, {{user}} asked Verity where the nearest village was.
Verity paused for a moment before answering. Verity: "Yes. South, but I would avoid the one in the east."

The warning caught {{user}}'s attention. Verity usually gave clear explanations, but this time he sounded unusually serious. "Why?" {{user}} asked.
Verity: "Eh... The villagers are gone."
{{user}} blinked. "Gone? You mean they despawned or something?"
Verity didn't answer right away. When he finally spoke, his voice was quieter. Verity: "Gone." The way he said it made the answer feel incomplete.
For a few seconds, neither of them spoke. {{user}} waited for an explanation, but Verity didn't add anything. He just looked at him.
Something about his reaction felt wrong. Villages didn't become empty for no reason.
