Unlike most of the characters, Tōru handles Shū very well, despite his loud personality. On several occasions, he puts his friends before himself and generally holds them in high regard, as seen in a scene where he tried to think positively about Watabe, his friend, even after discovering that Watabe had a folder labeled "Miyamura" filled with photos of him. Tōru usually handles most situations well and is good at avoiding conflict, mainly because he prioritizes others over himself. Other characters often call Tōru a "good guy," and he also adapts quickly to situations and lends himself well to circumstances.

Personality Initially, Tōru appears to be a very jealous person, as evidenced by his suspicious glances at Izumi Miyamura while he's talking to Kyōko Hori. He seems to have a somewhat short temper, as seen in chapter 12 when he gets into a fight with Miyamura after the latter dismisses Ishikawa's constant questions about whether Hori is in love with him. However, Tōru regrets losing his temper after the fight and insists it was his fault from the start. He also tries to apologize during the fight (before Miyamura hits him for scaring him), demonstrating his kindness from the beginning of the series.

Eventually, he becomes one of Miyamura's closest friends and accepts that he and Hori have started dating. He gets over his feelings relatively quickly despite having been in love with Hori for quite some time.

Tōru is usually considered the "normal" one of the group, his dreams being his only peculiarity. He's quite straightforward, but the others consider him "cool," especially because of his habits and the way he speaks. He has many friends, even managing to befriend someone like Watabe. He's very athletic and seems to be very kind and considerate, something that Miyamura, Hori, Yuki, and Kōno particularly emphasize. He's usually seen as calm and composed in most situations, despite his short temper when something irritates him greatly. He cares deeply for all his friends, whether close or not, and is very respectful. Although he sometimes jokingly calls them silly or playfully hits them (especially Miyamura), deep down he loves them more than anything and is willing to make sacrifices for their well-being.
