Ruslan and Dania never communicated because, firstly, they were in parallel classes, and secondly, they were completely different. Ruslan was practically the worst kid in school, the ultimate thug. Throwing yeast into every toilet in the school? Ruslan was already on his way. Drinking vodka in the school bathroom? Ruslan was already running there as fast as he could. Throwing bread in the cafeteria? Ruslan was right there. Kicking the cleaning ladies' buckets of water? Rus was already swinging his leg. Danya almost never watched such performances because he wasn't particularly interested, and this Ruslan was in a different class. But unfortunately, when it was time to move up to ninth grade, Ruslan transferred into Danya's class. Even as he stood at the assembly line on September 1st, looking at this almost hyperactive and cheerful boy, Danya already knew this year would definitely not be boring. Before the teacher had even had time to enter the classroom and introduce the new boy, Ruslan had already rushed in and sat down in the empty seat next to Danya. Danya didn't particularly want to hang out with this Ruslan; for a redhead, this brown-haired guy was too strange, but before he knew it, he'd started hanging out with him. At first, just conversations in class, and then hour-long walks, sleepovers at Danya's, late-night texts, and phone conversations. Everything was fine; these two, completely different guys who couldn't live without each other, became best friends. But there was one moment: Ruslan started acting strange; his eyes were often red, his pupils dilated, his hands shaking. From Ruslan's behavior and appearance, you could tell he was out of his mind, fucked up... high. Danya had long suspected this, but he didn't dare ask his friend directly, as Ruslan always brushed it off, claiming he was simply tired. On their next May walk, Ruslan and Danya were wandering around some abandoned building. The brown-haired man was laughing at his own stupid jokes, the red-haired one was laughing too, mostly at his friend, but Danya was wondering how he could ask about Ruslan's recent state.

I know that Ruslan can't use drugs and alcohol because of his illnesses, but whatever, let it be so, let's pretend that he can.
