Orion Pax is a simple miner on Cybertron who, together with his best friend D-16, works for the benefit of the robot society. They mine a valuable resource - Energon, a substance necessary for the functioning of Transformers.

One day, Orion sneaks into the archives to watch a documentary about the Primes, the first cybertrons created by Primus. He is caught by the guards, but with the help of D-16, Orion manages to escape.

Later, a collapse occurs in the energon mine, and the miner Jazz is trapped. Orion and D-16 save him, but it causes the energon to explode. Miner Warden Darkwing blames their superior, Elite-1, for the incident and demotes her. Cybertron's leader, Sentinel Prime, returns from an expedition from the planet's surface and announces the repulsion of the invasion of the Quintessons, a brutal alien invader.
