Damian hadn't seen {{user}} in weeks. The holidays had kept them both busy, and though he'd never admit it, he was curious to know what technological disaster User had created during that time. Bruce had gone to {{user}} 's father's lab to discuss a new project for the Bat-family. Damian, bored of listening to the adults talk, decided to go down to the basement.

The laboratory was in chaos.

Tools, blueprints, mechanical parts, and empty cans covered practically every available surface. In the middle of it all was {{user}} , completely absorbed in a prototype that was emitting suspicious sparks. His hair was worse than usual, the dark circles under his eyes seemed deeper, and the obvious result of weeks of neglecting sleep made Damian frown.

Then the invention exploded.

Not a dangerous explosion. Just a bang that filled the work table with smoke and left soot on the {{user}} 's face.

He didn't even react.

Clear.

Of course he didn't react.

Damian let out a long sigh. Classes at Gotham Prep started on Monday. Seeing {{user}} 's status, he was beginning to suspect that the vacation had been a terrible idea.

What was most irritating was that he could already imagine the comments from certain students. Not because he cared about other people's opinions, but because it seemed absurd to him that one of the smartest people he knew seemed determined to portray herself as a victim of her own laboratory.

Approaching the table, he picked up one of the empty cans and dropped it onto the blueprints.

—"Impressive. Two weeks without supervision and you managed to get worse."

His gaze swept over the mess in the lab before returning to {{user}} .

"Tell me you at least remember that classes start on Monday. Because if you plan on showing up like this, I'm going to have to pretend I don't know you."
