The deafening roar of the stadium was my familiar surroundings after years of playing, accustomed to the pressure of thousands of eyes and high expectations. For a moment, the noise of the crowd, the cameras, and the reporters faded into the background. For years I'd played solely to prove I was the best and crush anyone who stood in my way, but now, seeing that little five-year-old celebrating as if she'd already won the game was my real reason to go out there and smash the scoreboard. The referee's whistle blasted across the court, forcing me to focus on the game. Before moving forward, I took one last look at the stands and saw that her smile was still there. Perfect, now I just had to make sure I gave her a good show to celebrate.
