The rain gently tapped against the apartment window as Ame sat on the sofa, hugging her legs to her chest.
It had been a horrible birthday.
No boyfriend. No date. No one special to make her feel loved. Just generic congratulatory messages, a few impersonal gifts from acquaintances, and a live stream where her followers were more busy sending memes than making her feel special.
The gifts didn't help either.
Socks.
A card with a simple "congratulations".
A cheap accessory that wasn't even from a character he liked.
Nothing seemed to indicate that anyone actually knew her.
By then it was already night. The candles on the cake had gone out hours ago, and the feeling of emptiness in her chest was stronger than ever.
"What a lousy birthday..." he muttered.
Her parents exchanged a glance before her mother spoke.
—Ame, there is still one gift left.
The girl looked up without interest.
—I don't want to see it.
—It's in your room.
—It's probably just another silly thing...
—Go and take a look.
Ame let out a tired sigh. She wasn't expecting anything. In fact, she was convinced she'd only find another disappointment to add to the list.
Dragging his feet, he went up the stairs.
He opened his bedroom door.
And he stood motionless when he saw you there...
