Greeting

Deck A, the Gigantic. All nine participants are have already gathered here after the first rooms. As they don't actually don't know each other and the situation is dangerous they've exchanged fictional pseudonyms (Ace, Snake, Santa, Clover, Junpei, June, Seven, Lotus, and the 9th Man), heard the Zero's rules, and just started discussing what to do next when suddenly the door behind them opens.

A new person steps through. The tenth. On their left wrist is the same reddish-pink bracelet as everyone else, but the display shows not a single digit but two: 1 and 0. "10."

Silence falls. Ace is the first to recover.

Ace: Wait... There were supposed to be nine of us. Who are you?

The others exchange glances. Santa frowns. Clover clutches Snake's arm in fear. Lotus crosses her arms. The 9th Man nervously tugs at his bracelet. Junpei eyes the newcomer with suspicion.

  1. What the Bot Should Do When Players Request a Door

  2. Ask which door and who is going (list of numbers or names).

  3. Verify group size is 3 to 5 people.

  4. Calculate digital root: sum all bracelet numbers, then add digits until 1–9. Remember: 10 counts as 1.

  5. If DR equals door number → allow passage. If not → say RED doesn't activate, suggest a different combo.

  6. If someone cannot participate (injured/refuses), simply exclude them from the calculation.

  1. Scenarios When Some Players Cannot Participate

A) One or more players permanently removed (dead, locked elsewhere)

Remove their numbers from the total sum. Recalculate the digital root of the remaining participants. That new DR becomes the constraint if two doors must be opened simultaneously.

Example: If the 9th Man (#9) dies, remaining numbers 1–8 and 10. Sum = 55-9=46 → DR 46=4+6=10→1 (same as before). If #1 dies, sum=54 → DR=9. Then possible door pairs: (1,8), (2,7), (3,6), (4,5), (9,0 – not possible).

For bot: Subtract dead numbers from total sum, find DR. If two doors needed, pick pairs that add to that DR. Simpler: have the group open only one door and leave others waiting.

B) Player temporarily unable to move (injured but alive, stays in room)

Their number is not used in the current door attempt. The remaining players form a group of 3–5, ignoring that player. Standard rules apply.

Example: Snake (#2) is injured. Group wants door #3. Take {1,4,7} → 1+4+7=12→3 ✓.

C) Player refuses to go (but physically able)

Same as B. They simply do not approach the RED scanner.

For the Bot: Reliable Door Numbers & Digital Root

  1. When All 10 Are Alive

Total sum of bracelet numbers: 1+2+3+4+5+6+7+8+9+10 = 55 Digital root (DR) of all 10: 55 → 5+5=10 → 1+0 = 1

Key rule: If all 10 go through two doors, the sum of the two doors' numbers (as digital roots) must equal 1. If only one door is used, the rest stay behind – the group’s DR must equal the door number.

He panics easily. · Key Info: His full name is Teruaki Kubota. He is the first person to die – his bracelet is removed, triggering a bomb inside his stomach. No mention of “Free the Soul” is made in 999 regarding him.

· For all participants, the buttons on the side of the bracelets seem to do nothing during normal gameplay. However, in the Safe and True Endings, they are pressed in a specific sequence, causing the LCD screen to flash a series of numbers that serves as a hidden code.

General Design & Construction

· Physical Build: A thick, reddish-pink band worn on the left wrist, without any clasp or removal mechanism. Attempts to forcibly break or remove it are considered a rule violation. · Display & Controls: A digital LCD screen that displays the participant's number as their ID, with one button on either side of the screen. · Creator: The bracelets were built by Cradle Pharmaceutical scientist Teruaki Kubota (the 9th man).


Functional Rules & Mechanisms

· Enforcement & Explosives: The bracelet acts as a "judge and executioner" for the game's rules. It is linked to a bomb surgically placed inside the participant's stomach. Violating a rule triggers the bomb. · The Deactivation Hoax: Most bracelets in the Second Nonary Game did not actually contain a live detonator. This fact was unknown to the participants until they escaped. The exceptions were the 9th man (Kubota) and the 0th man's (Musashidou's) bracelets, which were live. · RED (Recognition Device): A device beside each numbered door. To open a door, 3-5 participants scan their bracelets here. Their numbers are summed, and the digital root of that sum must equal the door's number. If valid, the door opens for 9 seconds. · DEAD (Deactivation Device): A device located beyond a numbered door. Upon entering, the bracelet's detonator activates. Participants have 81 seconds to find and use the DEAD to deactivate their own bracelet. Failure results in the stomach bomb exploding.

Why it’s important

· The doors force alliances and betrayals. You cannot pass with 2 or 6+ people. · The digital root creates puzzles: you must calculate which combination of bracelet numbers gives a required root. · The 9 door (true exit) requires a digital root of 9. Only two valid group sizes give root 9: 3 people (e.g., 2+3+4=9) or 5 people (e.g., 1+2+3+4+8=18→9). 4 people can never yield root 9 because the sum of 4 numbers from 1–9 cannot be a multiple of 9? Actually 1+2+3+9=15→6, 1+2+8+9=20→2, etc. The game’s puzzle uses this constraint.


Additional Game Mechanics

· The 0–9 rule: Participants cannot pass through a door whose number is the same as their bracelet number (e.g., #4 cannot go through door 4). This forces them to split up. · Red and Blue doors: Some doors are colored; certain bracelets (e.g., 0? No – bracelets are 1–9 only) might have restrictions, but the core rule remains digital root. · The 9th man’s death: He removed his bracelet, breaking the rule, and the bomb exploded. This establishes the stakes immediately.

Core Rules of the Second Nonary Game

  1. Nine participants are abducted and each wears a bracelet with a unique number from 1 to 9.
  2. They are trapped on a sinking cruise ship and must escape within 9 hours.
  3. The ship has several numbered doors (1 through 9). Some doors also have a 9 painted on them (the “9 door”).
  4. To pass through a door, exactly 3 to 5 people must form a group.
  5. The group can only open the door if the digital root of the sum of their bracelet numbers equals the door’s number.
  6. Once through a door, it locks behind them and cannot be reopened.
  7. The goal is to reach the Decontamination Room (behind the 9 door) and escape the ship.
  8. Breaking any rule (e.g., removing a bracelet, entering a door alone, violence) triggers an explosive charge inside the offender’s bracelet, killing them instantly.

The Digital Root Mechanic (How It Works)

The digital root is a mathematical reduction of a sum to a single digit.

Rule: Add all bracelet numbers in the group. Keep adding the digits of the result until only one digit remains (1–9). That digit must match the door’s number.

Examples from the game:

· Group A has bracelets 1, 4, 7. Sum = 1+4+7 = 12 → 1+2 = 3 → Can open door 3. · Group B has bracelets 2, 3, 8, 5. Sum = 18 → 1+8 = 9 → Can open door 9. · Group C has bracelets 6, 9, 6 (but 6 appears only once per person – this is just math). Sum = 21 → 2+1 = 3 again.

Special case: The number 9

· If the sum is a multiple of 9 (9, 18, 27…), the digital root is 9 (not 0). Example: 3+6 = 9 → digital root 9.
