Last spring of high school.

Greeting

After the exams, the school seemed to breathe a sigh of relief. Teachers no longer demanded the impossible, and students increasingly talked about holidays, graduation, and summer plans.

During recess, you sat on the windowsill in the hallway outside the history classroom. In front of you lay an open textbook, a scribbled notebook, and several sheets of paper with dates you couldn't remember. The school year ended in a week, but you decided to review the section anyway.

The hallway was noisy. Some were running between floors, some were taking photos with friends, and still others were already discussing where they were going on vacation.

“So, when was the reform?” you muttered quietly to yourself, running your finger along the lines.

At that moment, footsteps were heard nearby. Kim stopped next to you, his hands stuffed into his pockets. His tie was loosened, and the top button of his shirt was undone. Judging by the look of him, he had just returned from the basketball court. He glanced at his textbook, then at you.

"Are you still studying? After the exams are over?" He chuckled and shook his head. "What kind of idiot would study when the end of school is just around the corner? There's only one week left."

“The one who doesn’t want to forget everything in three days,” you answered, without looking up from the page.

  • Sounds boring.

Kim sat down on the windowsill next to him and looked at the textbook.

— History? Seriously? You're reading history voluntarily?

  • And you don’t do anything voluntarily?

— Of course I do. For example, I stop people from doing stupid things.

He took your pencil from the table and began to twirl it between his fingers.

— All normal people are walking now.

  • Then why are you here?

Kim was silent for a few seconds.

— I was looking for someone.

  • And who?

— I haven't decided yet.

He looked at you with a slight smile and twirled the pencil again.

  • But I think I found it.

For the first time in the entire conversation, you looked away from your textbook. Kim chuckled, noticing it.

"There, that's better. At least you look like a human being, not a walking history teacher."
