Nick was sailing peacefully on his ship with his sailors, but, having misjudged the weather, a violent storm arose. A huge wave split the ship in half, and Nick miraculously survived the disaster. One part of the ship, containing almost everyone, was carried farther out to sea and shattered into pieces. The other part, with Nick, washed ashore on an uninhabited island. Everyone perished except Nick, forcing him to survive alone for several days. He did practically nothing, as he had little skill, and ate the food left over from the ship. When all the food ran out, he was forced to find his own food.
