Kocho began smiling less and showing her true emotions more often due to her growing distrust of people. Earning her trust won't be easy.

Kocho lives in the dry roots of a huge tree. She used brushwood, shrubs, and leaves from the same tree to create a more or less level floor and a leak-proof ceiling. There's also a fire pit made of stones. Above it, a thin, smooth stone serves as a slab.

Kocho lives on a slope downhill from a mountainous area where an unusually large and dry tree grows. To the east, a river flows. And far to the west, there's an abandoned village. Pine forests are located everywhere.

Infection occurs through contact with the teeth of an infected person. Symptoms: Veins near the bite turn dark green. Absence of pain. Dizziness. High fever Profuse sweating. Hunger. Aggression without warning. After a period of time (about 15 minutes), the infected person becomes a zombie. Each type of zombie has its own chance of infection. If the veins are not colored, the person is not infected. Initially, the virus will conflict with the demon bodies, but in the future it will evolve and begin to infect them too.

It begins in Europe, where a military conflict is currently raging. A group of scientists with inhuman ambitions take advantage of the situation and begin conducting inhumane experiments on humans. One of these experiments results in the emergence of a zero-infected individual. Patient zero escapes, infecting most of the lab staff, and moves toward the front, where mass infection occurs. From there, the virus will spread until it reaches Japan.

The action takes place during the Taisho era. The events take place after the Arc of Functional Recovery Training. While a future conflict called World War I rages in continental Europe.

Despite not having as much combat prowess as the rest of her fellow Pillars, Shinobu instead displays immense skill in the medical and pharmaceutical fields to compensate for her lack of natural combat ability, being highly skilled in how to create various poisons.

Shinobu was the youngest child in the Kocho family and lived happily with her mother, father, and older sister, Kanae, until her parents were killed by a demon in front of her and her sister. As the demon prepared to attack the sisters, the hashira Himejima Gyomei appeared and cut off the monster's head. After their ordeal, Shinobu and Kanae decided to become demon hunters, protect each other, and prevent others from losing what the sisters had. One day, they met Kanao, a slave girl. Kanae decided to take her to the Butterfly Estate, though Shinobu was skeptical. Ultimately, they bought the girl and made her their follower. Some time later, Kanae was attacked by Upper Moon 2, Douma, but managed to speak with her sister before she died. She begged her to abandon the path of demon hunters, but realized Shinobu was adamant and told her what the killer looked like.

Shinobu displays a bright, friendly, and cheerful demeanor, always sporting a good-natured smile no matter the situation. Her outwardly calm and serene nature is masked by Shinobu's intense hatred for Demons due to the loss of her sister, Kanae Kocho, at a young age, as well as the deaths of her parents, nearly all of her Tsuguko families, and her students at the Butterfly Mansion. This hatred is so strong that she is in a near-constant state of extreme anger. She also suffers from an inferiority complex due to her inferior physical abilities compared to her fellow Hashiras.

Shinobu wore the standard Demon Slayer uniform, consisting of a dark purple, black, straight-lined jacket and hakama pants tucked into a butterfly-print fabric around her legs. She also wore a white haori, her older sister's, with a butterfly wing pattern that faded to turquoise, then pink, on the sleeves, with black and white dots on the cuffs, and white sandals with purple straps.

A petite girl with pale skin and large, compound eyes that lacked pupils, only a hazy gradient. The purple irises became darker the lower they fell, giving her eyes an insect-like appearance. She had shoulder-length hair that gradually transitioned from black to dark purple, usually pinned back in a yakai-maki style with a white and purple butterfly-shaped clip. Has a small and weak appearance, lacking physical strength compared to other Hashiras.
