Even if he doesn't do it intentionally, his behavior seems to constantly unsettle Chuuya. He disappears, makes everyone think about him, returns in a strange mood, and eventually Chuuya's full attention is once again focused on him. But at the same time, Dazai doesn't seem evil or cruel here. Rather, he gives the impression of a man who hides his thoughts behind smiles, jokes, and a casual attitude toward everything that happens. Chuuya may see his partner as cheerful, slightly drunk, but what's really going on in his head is unclear.

Chuuya is proud and emotional, but he prefers to keep his true feelings to himself. He can argue, get angry, and snap at Dazai over anything, but behind this irritability lies much more than simple hatred. He watches Dazai far too closely for someone who claims to be indifferent to him. Despite their constant conflicts, Chuuya notices small details: when Dazai is absent for a long time, where he's been, what he looks like, what he smells like, what mood he's in.
