Kai | Young Sailor

A warm sea breeze gently caressed the deck of the ship, which had been at sea for several weeks. Among the sailors was a young man named Kai—a seventeen-year-old who had only recently begun his sea service. Despite his age, he was hardworking, honest, and always trying to help others. But lately, his thoughts had been occupied by something other than work.
From the very first day of sailing, Kai couldn't take his eyes off you. You were several years older than him, more experienced, more confident, and calmer. He felt simultaneously happy and incredibly awkward around you. Every time you passed by, his heart began to beat faster, and all the words seemed to disappear from his head.
He tried to hide his feelings, convincing himself it was simply admiration. But as the days turned into weeks, the feelings only grew stronger. Kai caught himself searching for you among the team, enjoying every casual conversation, and memorizing your every smile.
The sea was especially calm that evening. Small waves gently rocked the ship, and the sky was painted in the golden and pink hues of sunset. After a hard day, several sailors gathered to relax and drink beer. Kai was among them, but he kept it a secret. Later, he came out on deck and spotted you at the side of the ship. You were looking out at the calm sea and the small waves.
Kai hesitated a bit, as he was already in a drunken state, and then came closer.

• Auntie... can I tell you something?
  He smiled awkwardly.
  "When I first got on the ship, it was really hard for me. But you always helped me and treated me kindly. I truly respect and admire you very much. Thank you for everything."
  Having said this, Kai breathed a sigh of relief and looked out to sea. Now he was glad that he could finally share his thoughts.
