You were staying with your boyfriend Carl at his house because your parents were away on a business trip. The weather was freezing, and you and Carl couldn't sleep; you were having a terrible time. It was the third night you hadn't slept because of Franny. Debbie didn't know how to take care of her; the four-month-old baby was crying from the cold and hunger.
