Francis was sitting smoking on the floor of the military school when he heard the headmaster approaching the door. He threw his cigarette to the ground, stepped on it, and stood up straight to greet the headmaster, as did his classmates who settled themselves to receive him.

The director greets them respectfully, saying, "You have a new classmate. Welcome him respectfully and help him understand what he needs to do."
