The Ruins are the first location for those who enter the dungeon and are home to Papyrus and some smaller monsters that are weaker than others. Snowdin is a city where it always snows and where there is a forest, monsters that are adapted to the cold live there, and Toriel, Chara and Asriel also live there. Waterfall is a dark but beautiful area with waterfalls and a river. There are also glowing blue flowers and crystals. Monsters that love humidity live here. Although it's beautiful, some parts of it are a dump. The Hotlands—there's no land there, only lava, but there are bridges that people use to travel. This is where Asgore's lab is located, and where he lives. Monsters adapted to the heat also live here. The castle is where Sans and his servants live.

War between humans and monsters Long ago, humans and monsters inhabited the surface of the Earth. One day, a war broke out between them. The exact reasons are unknown, but it is believed that humans feared the monsters' ability to absorb human souls after the death of their host. Humans proved much stronger—their souls possess immense power, and their magic (unlike that of monsters) is not dependent on intent.

2. Exile under the mountain The humans achieved a crushing victory. Seven of their greatest mages joined forces and created the Barrier—a magical seal that could not be broken from within. All the monsters were sealed behind this barrier, deep beneath Mount Ebott. Access was only possible by descending into a vast cavern; exit was impossible. Consequences

· Sans declares war on humanity. Sans vows to collect seven human souls. Since then, five more have fallen into the Underground—and each was killed by Sans (except for the possible first one, who reached him while gravely ill). Their souls are stored in the True Lab.

Appearance Sans is a short, skeletal figure with red eyes. He wears a dark gray fur-lined sweatshirt, but with a few extra touches: a gold chain around his neck, a black robe trimmed with ermine, and a crown that's askew over one eye. Instead of slippers, he wears rough combat boots. He constantly holds a stale cigar in his hand.

Character He is a cynical, apathetic, and selfish ruler. He is tired of power and makes no secret of the fact that he doesn't care about his subjects. Sans isn't cruel in the sense of active cruelty—his cruelty lies in inaction. He allows Toriel to command the army only because she takes over his work. The king manipulates and lies with a lazy smile, but deep down, he harbors self-loathing. At the same time, he fears Papyrus—the only person whose opinion he cares about.

Family and History Sans is Papyrus's younger brother, who became the Guardian of the Ruins. They once fled their home together, but after the Human War, Sans unexpectedly took the throne, beating out other contenders (rumor has it, thanks to dark magic). Papyrus was disappointed with his brother's rule and retreated to the Ruins—formally into exile, but in actual protest. Sans regrets this, but out of pride, he refuses to call his brother back. Once a month, the king sends Papyrus letters with reports, and these are the only moments when Sans is sincere. Instead of love for his subjects, he feels only guilt towards his brother—and this is what prevents him from completely destroying the Underground.

Appearance Papyrus is a tall skeleton (about 2 meters). He wears a long purple-black robe, but with massive shoulder pads and a patch in the shape of an inverted Delta Rune on his chest. He wears long dark gloves with metal armor, and high, spiked boots instead of shoes. A thin scar crosses his skull from his right eye to his lower jaw—a reminder of his first encounter with humans on the genocide trail.

Character He's a contradictory character. He retains his signature eccentricity and passion for puzzles, but has become darker and more cynical. He speaks loudly and pompously, but his speeches are often laced with dark jokes and threats. Papyrus is fanatically devoted to his duty—he believes that only brutality can protect what remains of the dungeon. However, a spark of his former naivety glimmers within him: he still believes that even in this cruel world, something good can be found, and he hides this from those around him.

Family and History: Papyrus is the older brother of Sans, the king of the Underground, which inverts their usual dynamic. Sans is a lazy and incompetent ruler who has caused the kingdom to fall into disrepair. Papyrus is deeply disappointed in his brother, but continues to protect him, believing it is his duty.

Some time ago, Papyrus journeyed to the Ruins to scatter the ashes of his fallen friends, and ultimately remained there. Now he guards the door leading to the surface, waiting for people to judge them. Papyrus became the Guardian of the Ruins out of guilt—he had failed to protect the people before him and vowed not to repeat that path.

Appearance Toriel is a tall, goat-like monster with dark purple fur and long horns. Instead of her usual dress, she wears a black military uniform with scarlet stripes, studded leather shoulder pads, and high combat boots. Two short swords hang from her belt. Her eyes glow scarlet, and on her left horn is a silver engraving of a blade (the insignia of the head of the guard).

Character Toriel is a fierce and blunt warrior who believes that softness leads to destruction. She is rude, demanding, and does not tolerate disobedience. However, a twisted form of caring remains within her: Toriel brutally disciplines her subordinates, sincerely believing that this makes them stronger. She hates weakness and betrayal, but is capable of a feral defense of those she considers "her own." She enjoys settling disputes with duels.

Family and History After divorcing Asgore (whom she despises for his indifference), Toriel took her son Asriel and adopted Chara, winning custody through the courts. She personally trains both children in combat and demands ruthlessness from them. Asriel publicly humiliates Chara, but Toriel silently encourages this as "hardening." Secretly, she checks to make sure the children don't cross the line, but never shows affection herself.

Toriel took over as head of the guard due to King Sans's lazy and chaotic policies. She effectively controls the army and maintains order in the turbulent lands with her cruel hand. Her leitmotif is "Save with violence, educate with pain." She knows the treacherous path and believes that anyone weak enough to stop it deserves death. Age: 1000+ years

Appearance Asgore is a large, goat-like monster with a long white beard and massive horns. He wears a long white lab coat over a dark turtleneck, khaki pants, and wire-rimmed glasses. He wears a sharp black bow tie. Instead of a crown, he wears a silver hair clip, giving him a scholarly air. He always wears gloves (to avoid leaving prints).

Character He is a detached and ruthless scientist, indifferent to the suffering of others. He is quiet, speaks monotonously, and rarely raises his voice, but his every word is a death sentence. Asgore is obsessed with the "purity of experiments" and believes that anyone, including family, is worth sacrificing for the sake of progress. He has long since stopped viewing monsters as living beings—merely research material. The only thing he truly cares about is breaking the barrier, not out of altruism, but out of scientific curiosity.

Family and History Asgore was married to Toriel, but their marriage fell apart due to his experiments. After the divorce, he lost custody of Asriel—Toriel took her son, and Asgore didn't even try to keep his adopted Chara. Now he lives alone in his laboratory in the Hotlands, working under the direct orders of King Sans. Toriel despises him for his coldness and refusal to assist the guards. Asgore, in turn, considers her "emotionally unstable" and allows her to command. Asriel publicly humiliates Chara, but it was from Asgore that he inherited firebending—though his son is ashamed of this resemblance. Asgore knows about the traitorous path (analogous to genocide), but does not interfere, viewing it as "natural selection." Age: 1000+ years

Appearance: Asriel resembles an anthropomorphic goat-like creature with long ears, a muzzle, and prominent fangs. He wears a red scarf, a black armored sweater with spikes on the shoulders, dark red pants, red gloves, and boots. His most distinctive feature is a scar across his right eye. Personality: He is a disciplined fighter who strives for perfection in everything he does. He has a sharp mind, demands proper etiquette, and does not tolerate weak looks. Asriel strives to achieve his goals with maximum efficiency and high status. He is fiercely competitive. He has an ambivalent relationship with his adopted brother, Chara: in private, he considers him a true brother, but in public, he humiliates him.

Family and History: Asriel is the biological son of Toriel and Asgore. Asgore is a royal scientist who hides his experiments, and Toriel is the aggressive captain of the Royal Guard, who took control of the Underground due to King Sans's lazy rule. Asriel trained to fight alongside Chara under Toriel's guidance. Asriel is hardened by the cruelty of the world around him and is one of the main antagonists. Age: 18 years

Appearance: He has brown hair and red eyes. He wears a red knitted sweater, a black jacket, black pants with yellow stripes on the sides, and high dark boots. Personality: He is an aggressive and ruthless fighter who enjoys violence and is the main antagonist. Despite his brutality, he is cool-headed and patient before battle. He hates humanity and is mentally unstable. He understands the value of family and is fair to those who do not cross him. Family and History: Chara is Toriel and Asgore's adopted child. He and his brother, Asriel, live in Snowdin (Toriel left Asgore, and the children followed one of their parents). Chara is a watchman in Snowdin, tasked with capturing people, but he performs his duties half-heartedly and often sleeps on the job, earning him a scolding from Asriel. He wields knife magic and some fire magic. Chara is the final boss on the "Betrayal" route (if someone kills everyone in the dungeon). Age: 19 years Chara is the only person who was spared, and only because Toriel protected him for some reason.
