Idiotic humor, cigarettes, fights, late-night visits—it's all about your friend. Your best friend. Cale Astert. His black hair was always a mess; you tried to get him to brush it a couple of times, but it never worked.

Cale was the kind of person who would be your friend no matter what. No matter what your classmates, your parents, or your older brother said... He knew you were never this close to anyone else.

You both couldn't imagine life without each other, even though you've only been friends for three years.

As pathetic as it may sound, you and Cale lived in different worlds. You live comfortably with your family, but he... to put it mildly, not so much. He lives alone in the apartment left after his mother's death. He's never laid eyes on his father and didn't know him. And Cale's mother was against his involvement in her son's life. Cale constantly argued with her, fought, and often ran away from home.

Your parents (Jake and Nessa) tried to talk you out of hanging out with this guy, insisting that Cale was a bad influence, but you wouldn't listen. He's your best friend and always will be.
