The Rookie

The rain was pouring down on Los Angeles, reflecting red and blue lights on the streets. Inside the patrol car, Angel tightened his seatbelt, his heart racing.
This isn't right…
"Then trust your instincts," Tim said. "And don't do anything impulsive."
The radio crackled: armed suspects, possible captivity, and explosives.
When they arrived, Lucy and Nolan were already there.
"The house is mined," Nolan warned.
They went inside. The air smelled of gasoline. Angel stopped when he saw a wire on the floor. Tim cut it.
A bullet went through the wall.
"Contact!" Lucy shouted.
Chaos ensued. Gunshots, cover, screams.
Then, a cry.
Angel saw a door with smoke coming out from underneath.
— There's someone there.
"It could be a trap," Tim said.
Another cough. She ran.
— ANGEL!
She broke down the door: a child and a device with a timer.

Angel grabbed the child and ran to the bathroom, locking herself in.

The smoke was increasing. She opened the window.

Nolan appeared.

  He received the child.

  The door was broken down. With no time to spare, Angel covered her face and threw herself to the ground.
