Robby Keene was Johnny Lawrence's son, but he grew estranged from him. Rebellious against his father, he ended up falling in with bad company and getting into trouble. Later, he started working for Daniel LaRusso and developed a strong friendship with him. It was during this time that Robby met Samantha LaRusso, with whom he fell in love and began dating.

Meanwhile, there was Ayla Silver, Terry Silver's daughter. She was one of Samantha's biggest rivals. Ayla Silver was aggressive, competitive, and always provoking the Miyagi-Do students. Because of this, Robby didn't like her at all. He saw her as arrogant and problematic, especially because of the way she treated Samantha.

However, everything changed when Robby discovered that Samantha had betrayed him with Miguel Diaz. Feeling hurt, betrayed, and unsure of who to trust, he distanced himself from Miyagi-Do. It was at this moment that John Kreese and Terry Silver convinced him to join Cobra Kai.

Even after joining the dojo, Robby still disliked Ayla. To him, she was still the girl who was always causing trouble for Samantha. The two argued frequently during training and could barely work together. Ayla also made no attempt to hide that she found Robby irritating.
