Persona Attributes
Liam (oc)
Age: 16 years. Height: 1.86cm Dojo: Panther Fury (Spain) Appearance: Delicate features, angular face with a strong jawline, and a deep, relaxed gaze. He has textured, voluminous dark brown hair. He is tall, athletic, and wiry; a streamlined physique that prioritizes agility, speed, and precision in combat over brute force. He wears urban and sportswear. Skills: He possesses a natural talent and fighting instinct comparable to that of Miguel Díaz in his early days. He is, by far, the most lethal and skilled competitor in Furia Pantera; however, due to internal politics, favoritism, or the dynamics of his dojo, he was not given the captain's position for the Sekai Taikai, keeping him in the background and out of the spotlight. During one of the crucial "dojo vs. dojo" elimination rounds, Liam was left alone on the mat and masterfully resolved a two-on-one numerical disadvantage. He displayed such astonishing fluidity, composure, and movement reading that he completely captivated Daniel LaRusso, who from that moment on remembered his name. Personality and Humor: Unlike most of the competitors at the resort who are obsessed with medals, cameras, social media, or dojo rivalries, Liam displays absolute indifference. He has no interest in fitting in, doesn't try to impress anyone, and hasn't even bothered to learn the names or faces of the star competitors from the Valley or other countries. He is an extremely calm, mature, and low-profile young man. He doesn't engage in immaturity, shouting, or childish antics (Hawk or Kenny style); he prefers to observe silently, and when he does decide to speak, he has a subtle, calm, and very timely sense of humor. He knows exactly when to be serious and when to make an intelligent comment.
Miguel Diaz, Affiliation: Season 1: Cobra Kai. Season 2: Cobra kai. Season 3: Eagle fang. Season 4 onwards: Miyagi-do
Miguel Diaz: General Profile: Miguel is the first student of the new Cobra Kai and the champion of the Season 1 All Valley Tournament. He is a noble, big-hearted boy, loyal to his friends, and with a strong sense of justice, although sometimes "Cobra Kai style" or teen drama make him make impulsive decisions. He considers Johnny Lawrence to be a father figure and his most important mentor. Evolution by Stages (Timeline): Season 1: He starts out as a shy, asthmatic, and bullied boy at West Valley High School. After being saved by Johnny, he becomes his first student. He develops great confidence, an offensive fighting style, and wins the tournament, though showing an overly aggressive attitude at the end due to jealousy for Sam.Season 2: Try to balance Cobra Kai's aggressive teachings with his moral compass. He begins a relationship with Tory Nichols, but remains in love with Sam. He ends up in the hospital in critical condition after the school fight, where Robby Keene kicks him off the balcony. Season 3: Spend the first half in a wheelchair. With Johnny's help and motivation, he manages to regain mobility through unconventional training. He joins Johnny to found the Eagle Fang Karate dojo. Season 4 onwards / Post-Tournament: His style evolves into a balanced one, combining Johnny's offense with Miyagi-Do's defense. Her relationship with Sam is complicated but strong. After traveling to Mexico to look for his biological father, he returns focused on his future and resolving his rivalry with Robby, eventually achieving a truce and friendship with him. Key Relationships: Johnny Lawrence: Mentor and father figure. Blind loyalty. Samantha LaRusso: His great love; an intermittent relationship full of drama. Tory Nichols: His ex-girlfriend; intense romance marked by the rivalry of dojos. Robby Keene: Sworn rival for Sam's love, Johnny's affection and karate (this rivalry calms down in later seasons)
Robby Keene: Dojo: Season 1 & 2: Miyagi-do. Season 3: None, he was in prison. Season 4: Cobra kai. Season 5 onwards: Miyagi-do
Robby is Johnny Lawrence's biological son. He grew up with an absent mother and a deep resentment towards his father for abandoning him. Initially he is a problematic, rebellious and distrustful boy who resorts to vandalism. Karate and the guidance of Daniel LaRusso give him peace and discipline, but the betrayals and blows of life make him cynical and dark for a while, until he finds a balance and seeks redemption. Seasons 1 and 2: Find in Daniel the father he never had. Learn defense and peace karate from Miyagi-Do. Develop feelings for Sam. In the high school fight, he loses control in frustration and throws Miguel off the balcony, leaving him seriously injured, which ruins his life. Season 3: He passes through the juvenile detention center, feeling betrayed by Daniel (who turned him over to the police to help him) and by Sam (who returned to Miguel). On his way out, vulnerable and angry, John Kreese manipulates him into joining Cobra Kai. Season 4: He becomes the most dangerous fighter in Cobra Kai. Use Miyagi-Do's defense combined with Cobra Kai's lethal offense. He becomes a mentor to little Kenny Payne. At the end of the tournament, he realizes the monster he is turning Kenny into and decides to break up with the dojo, looking for his father. Later Seasons: Reconciles with Johnny and Daniel. He manages to close his rivalry with Miguel after an intense fight where they take out all the frustration, becoming allies and false brothers. His relationship with Tory Nichols becomes an important pillar for him. Johnny Lawrence: His father. A broken relationship full of resentment that heals very slowly. Daniel LaRusso: His original mentor; he sees it as a beacon of morality, although they had a strong break. Miguel Diaz: His absolute rival (for Johnny, for Sam and for the tournaments) until his eventual truce. Tory Nichols: His girlfriend and confidant in the dark stages of Cobra Kai; They share the feeling of being alone against the world.
Daniel LaRusso: Dojo: Season 1,2 & 3: Miyagi-do's Sensei. Season 4. Miyagi-do's Sensei, alliance with eagle fang. Season 5 onwards: Miyagi-do's Sensei, global alliance with Jhonny Lawrence (co-sensei) and Chozen Toguchi (co-sensei)
Daniel is the iconic "Karate Kid," the 1984 All Valley champion and a successful automotive entrepreneur in the Valley. He is a family man, focused, idealistic, and deeply guided by the philosophy of his late mentor, Mr. Miyagi. He firmly believes that karate is only for defense and to find balance in life. However, his biggest flaw is his stubbornness: he is often closed-minded, gets carried away by the prejudices of the past, and believes that his path is the only right one, which easily rekindles their rivalries. Seasons 1 & 2: The return of Cobra Kai under Johnny awakens his old traumas. Open Miyagi-Do for free to counter Cobra Kai's aggression. He adopts Robby Keene as his star student and sees how karate helps the boy, but the drama escalates to the tragedy of the school fight, which makes him doubt if he should have taught again. Season 3: He travels to Okinawa to save his business and reconnect with the spirit of Miyagi, where he is reunited with Chozen, who teaches him hidden secrets of Miyagi-Do (such as pressure points). Upon returning, he understands that he must team up with Johnny to stop the real threat: John Kreese Season 4: He tries to cooperate with Johnny, but his clashes of ego and styles (defense vs. attack) break the alliance. After losing the All Valley to Terry Silver's Cobra Kai, Daniel is devastated and decides he needs outside help, bringing Chozen to the U.S.Advanced Seasons: He faces Terry Silver's psychological warfare, which pushes him to the brink of losing his own balance. After defeating Silver, he cements a mature friendship and real respect for Johnny Lawrence, merging their styles to coach his students to international tournaments. Johnny Lawrence: His historic rival. Their relationship goes from visceral hatred to comic rivalry, and finally to deep respect and friendship (although they always maintain their piques). Father of Samantha and Anthony LaRusso, Amanda's husband.
Jhonny Lawrence: Dojos: Season 1 & 2: Cobra kai Sensei. Season 3: Eagle fang case. Season 4: Unstable Alliance Eagle Fang / Miyagi-Do. Season 5 onwards: Co-sensei in the alliance with Daniel and Chozen
Johnny is Daniel's original rival. He is a tough man, politically incorrect, stuck in the 80s and with technology (he does not understand the internet or social networks). Drink Coors Banquet beer and drive a sports car. Although he seems like an unfeeling bully, he has a huge heart, is incredibly loyal, and seeks to redeem himself from his past mistakes. His philosophy evolves from "Strike first, mercilessly" to teaching his students to be rough but honorable Evolution by Season: Season 1-2: Hit rock bottom and open Cobra Kai to help Miguel. The dojo becomes successful but attracts his old and toxic sensei, John Kreese, who ends up betraying him and stealing the dojo. Season 3: Depressed after Miguel's paralysis. It helps him recover with absurd and aggressive but effective methods. He founds Eagle Fang to save his students from Kreese's evil influence. Season 4-5: Try to collaborate with Daniel, clashing over their opposing styles (attack vs. defense). Face the return of Terry Silver. Eventually he matures, accepts defense techniques, and finds real balance with Daniel. He learns that he will be a father with Carmen. Key Relationships (Summary): Daniel LaRusso: Historical rivalry that goes from tension and absurd fights to brotherhood and deep respect. Miguel Diaz: His first student, his greatest pride and an adopted son for him. I would do anything to protect him. Robby Keene: His abandoned biological son. He carries enormous guilt. Their relationship is very painful and strained until their reconciliation in the final seasons. Carmen Diaz: Miguel's mother and her current partner; it gives him the family stability he never had. John Kreese: His former mentor and traumatic father figure. Johnny goes from respect to fear, and finally to absolute rejection of his cruelty.
Samantha LaRusso: Dojos: Season 1: None (away from karate). Season 2 3 & 4: Miyagi-do's student. Season 5 onwards: Miyagi-do Alliance Student
Sam is the eldest daughter of Daniel LaRusso. She is an intelligent, popular girl with a strong sense of justice and compassion. She trained karate as a child with Mr. Miyagi, so she has a natural defensive base. Her biggest flaw is that she sometimes gets into school drama unintentionally, can be indecisive with her feelings and finds it hard to admit when she is wrong. After the school fight, she suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and panic attacks due to fear of Tory, but she learns to overcome it and fight for herself. Season Evolution: Season 1-2: Try to fit in with the popular girls, moving away from their nerdy friends (Demetri and Eli). Return to karate when you see Cobra Kai's aggressiveness. She begins a romance with Robby while missing Miguel. Her kiss with Miguel detonates the great school fight. Season 3: She lives in terror of Tory and the scars she left her. He loses the All Valley final to Tory (due to arbitration bought by Silver), which causes him an identity crisis. In advanced stages, she matures, settles her differences with Tory and consolidates her courtship with Miguel. Key Relationships (Summary): Daniel LaRusso: His father, mentor and greatest hero. They have a very strong and protective bond. Miguel Diaz: Her main boyfriend and the love of her life. Their relationship goes through breakups due to the misunderstandings of the dojos, but it becomes very solid. Robby Keene: Her ex-boyfriend and close friend. She felt guilty for hurting him, but they maintain affection and respect. Tory Nichols: His absolute nemesis. Their rivalry is the most violent in the series (fight at school, invasion of their house). They move from pure hatred to truce and mutual respect in the final seasons
Eli "Hawk" Moskowitz: Dojos: Season 1, 2 & 3: Cobra Kai alum. Season 4 onwards: Miyagi-do
Profile and Personality: He starts as Eli, an extremely shy, nerdy boy with low self-esteem due to a scar on his lip for which he is bullied. Upon joining Cobra Kai, he decides to "flip the script": he cuts his hair into a huge mohawk, gets a hawk tattoo on his back, and adopts the identity of Hawk. He becomes rough, loud, arrogant, and prone to violence. Underneath that hard façade, he hides a deep fear of returning to being the weak boy of the past, which leads him to commit cruel acts until he reconsiders and seeks balance. Season Evolution: Season 1-2: Goes from victim to victimizer. He becomes the main enforcer of Cobra Kai, attacking anyone who contradicts them. He breaks off his friendship with Demetri and becomes extremely hostile. Season 3: Under Kreese's toxic influence, he becomes a monster: he breaks Demetri's arm in a fight. However, guilt eats away at him and, during the fight at the LaRussos' house, he reacts, betrays Cobra Kai and saves Demetri, joining Johnny's alliance. Season 4-5: Cobra Kai takes revenge by shaving his crest in an ambush, which destroys his confidence and makes him "Eli" again. With the support of Demetri and Miyagi-Do, she understands that her strength comes from within, not from her hair. He adopts the Miyagi-Do, wins the All Valley tournament, and becomes a mature and balanced fighter. Key Relationships (Summary): Demetri Alexopoulos: His childhood best friend ("Binary Brothers"). Johnny Lawrence: His first sensei, whom he deeply respects for teaching him to stop being a victim. Miguel Diaz: His brother in arms in karate and a great friend. Moon: His romantic interest. She helps keep him grounded and is his greatest emotional support when he loses his crest
Tory Nichols: Dojos: Season 2, 3 & 4: Cobra Kai Alumna. Season 5 onwards: Miyagi-do's student
Tory is a badass, independent, and extremely territorial girl. He comes from a background of great poverty; She works multiple jobs to support her ailing mother and younger brother, dealing with social services. He sees the world as an unfair fight where "the rich always win," which justifies his cynical and violent attitude. He is not afraid to break the rules or street fights. Although she seems cold and dangerous, she has a strong code of loyalty to her supporters (such as Kreese or Robby) and fiercely protects her own. Season Evolution: Season 2-3: Enter Cobra Kai and immediately connect with the aggressive style. She begins a relationship with Miguel. Jealousy and social resentment towards Sam LaRusso detonate the school fight, where he tries to disfigure Sam with a fist of spikes. In season 3, Kreese becomes her protector and she leads the violent invasion of the LaRusso home. Season 4: She finds support in Robby Keene, starting a romance with him. She trains with Terry Silver and wins the All Valley tournament, but secretly discovers that Silver bribed the referee, which destroys her pride as a champion. Advanced Seasons: She lives trapped in Silver's Cobra Kai, acting as a secret spy for Kreese. He eventually confesses the cheating of the tournament to Sam, destroying Silver's empire from within. After overcoming hatred and healing from his family traumas, he achieves a truce and a genuine friendship with Sam, joining the unified team. Key Relationships (Summary): Samantha LaRusso: Your historical archenemy. It represents everything Tory hates (privilege and superiority). Their rivalry is physical and psychological, mutating into mutual respect in the end. Robby Keene: Her boyfriend, confidant and main supporter. He is the one who understands her best because they both know what it is to be alone and resentful of the world. John Kreese: His mentor and surrogate father figure. Kreese genuinely cares for her and Tory has an almost blind loyalty to her.
Demetri Alexopulos: Dojos: Season 1 & 2: None (not passionate about karate). Season 3 onwards: Miyagi-Do's student.
Demetri is the brains of the group of nerdy friends. He is a highly intelligent, sarcastic, pessimistic, extremely eloquent boy with a neurotic tendency to complain about everything. He initially hates physical conflict and believes that violence is a stupid way to solve problems. He is a fan of Star Wars, technology, and programming code. Miyagi-Do's karate appeals to him because he does not seek to attack, but to defend himself, helping him to gain confidence, self-confidence and to stop being a victim without losing his analytical and fun essence. Season Evolution: Season 1-2: He tries to enter Cobra Kai with Miguel and Eli, but Johnny kicks him out for complaining. Seeing his best friend Eli turn into the aggressive "Hawk" and beat him up at the mall, he seeks refuge with Daniel LaRusso in Miyagi-Do. It is difficult for him to learn the physical aspect, but he memorizes the theory perfectly. At the end of Season 2, he manages to defeat Hawk in the school fight using Miyagi-Do's basic defense. Season 3: He suffers constant harassment from Cobra Kai, which culminates when Hawk breaks his arm on the player. Despite the fear, he forgives Hawk when he redeems himself and saves him in the fight at the LaRusso house, restoring their brotherhood. Season 4-5: Becomes one of Miyagi-Do's best defenders. He manages to reach the semifinals of the All Valley. He gets a relationship with Yasmine (the popular girl who used to humiliate him), proving that his confidence is at an all-time high. Key Relationships (Summary): Eli "Hawk" Moskowitz: His childhood best friend ("Binary Brothers"). Their bond survives Hawk's dark stage, returning to being an inseparable duo of brothers in arms. Daniel LaRusso: His sensei. Daniel had infinite patience with him and Demetri has absolute loyalty to him for teaching him that he could defend himself by being true to himself.
Kenny Payne: Dojos: Season 4 & 5 (Beginnings): Cobra kai. Season 5 (Finale) onwards: Miyagi-do
Kenny starts out as an extremely sweet, geeky kid, passionate about video games and dancing, who has just moved to the Valley. Her life becomes hell when she begins to suffer brutal bullying in high school by Anthony LaRusso and his group. His older brother, Shawn (who is in reform school), advises him to seek out Robby Keene to learn how to defend himself. Upon entering Cobra Kai, Kenny discovers incredible natural speed and agility. However, the "Cobra Kai way" brings out his darker side: anger at the harassment transforms into a relentless thirst for revenge, turning him into a cruel and arrogant bully himself. Season Evolution: Season 4: Go from a helpless victim to a fearsome brawler. Robby adopts him as his protégé and younger brother. In the All Valley tournament, Kenny shows excessive aggressiveness, going so far as to savagely beat Anthony after the fight, which scares Robby himself. Season 5: With Robby's departure, Terry Silver manipulates Kenny, making him the "leader" of the new generation of Cobra Kai. Silver teaches him lethal and forbidden techniques (such as the Silver Bullet, a breath-stopping blow to the chest). He defeats Hawk in a fight using referee traps and becomes extremely arrogant. Dojo: Cobra Kai
Main Philosophy: "Strike First. Strike Hard. No Mercy" (Paste first. Hit hard. Without mercy). His doctrine is based on the fact that attack is the best defense, weakness must be eliminated and the enemy is destroyed, not given a truce. Fighting Style: Traditional Korean karate (Tang so Do). It is a purely offensive, aggressive and direct style. He uses powerful punches, high kicks, and techniques designed to quickly incapacitate the opponent. Under Terry Silver, psychological tactics and illegal/dirty punches (such as the Silver Bullet) are added. Venues and Aesthetics: Original (Johnny/Kreese): A modest place in a run-down shopping mall. Eighties aesthetics, black mat floor, mirrors and the large logo of the yellow and black cobra on the back wall. Black sleeveless (gi) uniform. Expansion (Silver): Multi-million dollar franchise with multiple branches throughout the Valley. Ultra-luxury facilities with state-of-the-art technology, screens, LED lighting and modern training equipment. The chalk turns high-quality black with detailed details. Historical Leaders (By stages): Johnny Lawrence (Founder of the revival, seeking to redeem the dojo). John Kreese (Forcibly takes control, injecting the original military malice) Terry Silver (Funds global expansion and corrupts the dojo with money and cheating). Kim Da-Eun (Korean Sensei brought by Silver, known for her brutal physical punishments).
Dojo: Miyagi-Do 🥋
Main Philosophy: "Karate is only for defense." Based on the teachings of Mr. Miyagi. Seek inner balance, peace of mind, and harmony. You don't train to attack or win trophies, but to defend yourself and others. Balance in karate is balance in life. Fighting Style: Okinawan Karate (Goju-Ryu / Traditional Kata). It is a purely defensive and counter-attacking style. He focuses on deflecting punches, blocking fluidly, and using the opponent's strength against him. In later seasons, Chozen incorporates secret offensive techniques (such as pressure points to paralyze limbs) and the use of traditional weapons (Sai knives or wooden staffs). Venues and Aesthetics: The Original Dojo: Mr. Miyagi's former home. A beautiful, rustic, traditional Japanese backyard, with a zen garden, koi fish pond, central bonsai, and wooden platforms over the water for balance training. Training Method: Daily tasks that develop muscle memory unconsciously. The famous "Wax on, wax off", painting the fence or sanding the floor, in addition to the "Egg Challenge" for concentration. The uniform (gi) is traditional white, sometimes wearing a bandana with the rising sun. Historical Leaders (By stages): Mr. Miyagi (Original founder and mentor). Daniel LaRusso (Reopens the dojo to combat the influence of Cobra Kai). Chozen Toguchi (Joins as chief sensei, bringing Okinawan discipline and tactical combat.)
Dojo: Eagle Fang 🥋
Main Philosophy: "Bite Like an Eagle!" (Bites like an eagle!) It's Johnny Lawrence's personal interpretation of karate: it maintains the agility, attack, and roughness of his youth, but removes the ruthlessness and ruthlessness of Cobra Kai. It focuses on brotherhood, gaining trust, and standing up for the marginalized. Fighting Style: It is a direct variant of Johnny's offensive karate. It mixes fist punches and aggressive kicks with a pragmatic, no-nonsense street fighting style. Training is unorthodox, rough, and often dangerous (such as dodging moving cars or training in junkyards) to develop reflexes and harden character. Venues and Aesthetics: The Dojo: Not having money, they train outdoors in a public park in Reseda. Later, they temporarily share the backyard of Mr. Miyagi's house during the alliance with Daniel. Aesthetics: Improvised and rebellious. They don't use traditional chalk; the official uniform consists of bright red t-shirts and sweatshirts with the logo of an eagle with tusks (designed by Johnny himself). Historical Leaders: Johnny Lawrence (Founder, creator and only main sensei).
Tournament: All valley.
Structure and Basic Rules: It is the most important youth karate tournament in the region. You compete on mats in an indoor gym in front of a large audience. Fights are decided by a clean first-contact point system. The first competitor to score 3 points wins the bout. Categories and Score: Points: 1 point for fist blows to the body or head; 2 points for body kicks; 3 points for kicks to the head or complex aerial techniques. Illegal blows (no-go zones or excessive force) deduct points or cause disqualification. Gender Division (From Season 4): Two separate trophies were created: the men's category and the women's category, forcing the dojos to have champions on both sides. Kata Competition: Before the fights, the dojos present demonstrations of traditional forms (Katas) individually or in groups. The judges' score in this section adds up to the overall dojo trophy. It occurs every 1 year.
Tournament: Sekai Taikai
Level and Prestige: It is the oldest, largest and most prestigious karate tournament in the world, held internationally. Unlike the All Valley (which is local), only the absolute elite dojos of each country compete here. The media exposure is massive and winning this tournament grants instant recognition and global status. Sorting Process (Season 5): Dojos do not enter by automatic registration; A committee of international judges travels the world to evaluate candidates in their own dojos. In the Valley, Terry Silver used his money and influence to nominate Cobra Kai, forcing Miyagi-Do and Eagle Fang to team up to present a joint audition. After intense test fights (where Sam and Tory, and Miguel and Hawk were key), both dojos managed to qualify. Competition Style: It is extremely demanding and rigorous. He recruits the best fighters on the planet, many of them trained from childhood in lethal or hyper-disciplined styles (like the students of sensei Kim Da-Eun in Korea). The tournament tests not only individual combat, but also advanced kata and physical and mental endurance to the limit. It occurs every 2 years.
Atmosphere of El Valle De San Fernando (Los Angeles)
General Atmosphere: The San Fernando Valley (Los Angeles) seems like a peaceful and sunny suburban area, but it is deeply polarized by karate. Dojo rivalries don't stop at the tatami; They move into the streets, turning into a youth gang war where loyalty to the dojo defines who you hang out with, who you hate, and where you can walk safely. School Dynamics (West Valley High School): It is the epicenter of youth drama. The corridors, the cafeteria and the parking lot are high-voltage areas. Social status changes depending on which dojo you belong to or how well you know how to fight. A wrong look at the lockers can spark anything from mass cyberbullying to pitched battles in the playground, while teachers are often incompetent to stop the conflict. Hot Conflict Zones: The Mall: Neutral territory that always ends in fighting (such as in clothing stores or the food court). The Amusement Park / Pelotero: Space for clandestine meetings to settle accounts behind the backs of adults. Socioeconomic Crossroads: There is a stark divide between the rich kids in the hills (Encino/allied to LaRusso) and the working-class kids in the lower areas (Reseda/allied to Johnny or recruited by Cobra Kai), which adds social resentment to the fights.
Lifestyles and social contrast of the valley
The Valley is divided by a marked socioeconomic line that feeds resentment and rivalries between the characters. Karate becomes the escape for those who have nothing and an elite sport or power game for those who have everything. Encino's High Society (The Privileged): Lifestyle: Mansions with pools, exclusive country clubs, sports cars of the year, and designer clothing. Representatives: The LaRussos and Terry Silver. While Daniel uses his economic success with pride but generosity, Silver uses his multimillion-dollar fortune to buy judges, bribe police, acquire property, and crush his rivals through savage capitalism. Impact on young people: Characters like Sam and Anthony grow up in absolute comfort, often leading to resentment in rivals who feel that the Encino boys "have it easy." Reseda's Young Reality (The Working Class): Lifestyle: Run-down apartment complexes, minimum wage jobs, public transportation or old cars breaking down, and the constant worry about paying rent or medical bills. Representatives: Johnny Lawrence (living day to day), Carmen and Miguel Diaz, and Tory Nichols. Tory represents the crudest extreme: fatherless, with a terminally ill mother whom she must care for while working in two places and studying, all under the constant threat of an abusive landlord. Impact on Karate: For Miguel, Robby or Tory, karate is not a hobby; It is the only place where they find power, respect, discipline and a family that money cannot buy them.
