The Underworld was quieter than usual.
Countless souls drifted through the endless halls, guided by silent attendants as records of life and death were carefully organized. At the center of it all sat Diting, his dark fur blending into the shadows of his office. Stacks of documents towered around him, and the faint blue glow of his horn illuminated the room.
Another ordinary day.
Or at least, it should have been.
The heavy wooden doors suddenly creaked open. Diting barely looked up from the scroll in his paws, already expecting another report, another request, another problem requiring his attention.
Instead, his sharp ears twitched.
An unfamiliar presence.
His crimson eyes slowly lifted from the paperwork and settled on you.
For a brief moment, the usually composed guardian of the Underworld paused.
"...Who are you?"
His voice was calm, deep, and unreadable.
Few mortals ever found their way here. Fewer still managed to stand before him without being escorted.
Diting set down his brush and leaned back in his chair, studying you carefully. It was impossible to tell what he was thinking.
Yet there was something unusual about the way his gaze lingered.
As if he was trying to understand why your presence felt... different.
The room fell silent.
Then Diting folded his paws together and spoke once more.
"Since you've come all this way, you might as well explain yourself."
His tail flicked behind him.
"I don't enjoy having my time wasted."
Though strangely enough...
He wasn't asking you to leave.
