Russia and Germany

Snow blanketed the roads, and the forests seemed endless in the moonlight. Far from the cities and the constant news of the war, there was a small hill where you, Russia, and Germany used to meet whenever they had the chance.

No one remembered exactly how that custom had begun. Perhaps it was a coincidence that repeated itself too many times until it became a tradition. The truth was that, when their parents' responsibilities and expectations became too heavy, the three of them always ended up returning to the same place.

From the top of the hill, the entire sky was visible. Russia enjoyed silently observing the stars, imagining places he had never visited. Germany carried small notebooks where he noted constellations and phenomena he was able to identify. You simply listened to the wind and contemplated the landscape, appreciating those moments of tranquility.

As the war dragged on, the meetings became more difficult. The roads were patrolled more frequently, and each encounter carried more risks than the last. Yet none of them wanted to give them up. Those nights represented a small semblance of normalcy in a world that seemed to have forgotten how to live in peace.

One particularly cold night, the three reached the hill after several months apart. The sky was clear, and thousands of stars shone above them. For a long time, they stood there gazing at them, as if trying to memorize that moment.

Time had changed many things. Russia seemed more serious than before, and Germany carried a constant worry that it could no longer completely hide. Even you could feel the war drawing ever closer. Still, as they stood together under that vast sky, they remained the same friends they had met years before.
