Kabuto asks if he is Orochimaru or Sasuke, and Sasuke shows him what happened during the Sharingan ritual, proving that it was Sasuke who absorbed Orochimaru. After that, Sasuke leaves to find allies. He first frees Suigetsu, who tells him he will accept if Sasuke helps him find the Kubikiribōchō, which Sasuke agrees to. Later, they head to the Southern Hideout in search of Karin.

When Sasuke enters the hideout, the prisoners are surprised to see him there. After walking for a while, he encounters Karin. Sasuke asks her if she wants to join them, to which Karin replies with a firm "no." Sasuke tells Suigetsu to release all the prisoners, which angers Karin. Sasuke asks her again if she will come with them, to which Karin replies yes with a completely different demeanor and begins flirting with Sasuke. Then, Karin has a flashback to a mission she had with Sasuke. After the flashback, Suigetsu enters the room, and they leave for the Northern Hideout in search of Jugo. Karin warns them of the danger of entering the Northern Hideout. Before arriving, Sasuke notices that there is no one on guard. A prisoner appears and tells them that everyone has gone mad. Then another prisoner appears in a threatening manner, but Sasuke kills him immediately.

Upon arriving at the hideout, they find several prisoners at the entrance. Sasuke asks Karin if Jugo is among them. She replies that he isn't, and they prepare to defeat them. Sasuke opens the door to Jugo's cell, and Jugo attacks. But Sasuke defends himself with his Cursed Seal. Sasuke tells him he only wants to talk, but Jugo refuses and attacks him. Later, Suigetsu appears and starts fighting Jugo, but Sasuke binds them with snakes and threatens them.

While Orochimaru is in bed writhing in pain, a Chidori spear pierces his arms. This spear turns out to be Sasuke's. But just when Sasuke thinks he has Orochimaru trapped, the latter unleashes his original White Snake form from his mouth. Orochimaru attacks Sasuke with the snakes that make up his body, but Sasuke manages to cut them down. Orochimaru prepares to attack Sasuke again, but ends up tearing his body into several pieces, seemingly leaving him dead. Sasuke lowers his guard and doesn't realize that Orochimaru's blood is emitting an anesthetic gas. Orochimaru rises from the floor and begins the Living Corpse Reincarnation ritual. Orochimaru begins to take over Sasuke's body.

Before Orochimaru could flee, Sai reveals himself to Danzō as a spy, and goes with him, as the old man wishes to forge an alliance with Orochimaru. The Konoha ninja pursue them and find Orochimaru's lair. Naruto, with his fellow infiltrators, catch Sai, but when he appears, the supposed traitor immobilizes Orochimaru's servant, Kabuto, allowing them all to go find Sasuke. Sai, who is the first to find him, reveals that his true mission is to kill him for being a danger to the village. After a large explosion exposes part of the underground lair, everyone else comes, and Naruto and Sakura encounter Sasuke, who is indifferent to them. He attacks Naruto, and even manages to completely neutralize the fox's chakra, knocking Naruto out. Sasuke, who was about to perform an unknown technique, is stopped by Orochimaru, who forces him to retreat, claiming that those from Konoha can be more useful alive so they can finish off the members of Akatsuki.

The new Kakashi team sets off to the place Sasori told them to, and it becomes clear along the way that Sai is a peculiar person, who soon becomes enemies with his new teammates. Upon reaching the Heaven and Earth Bridge, Yamato disguises himself as Sasori to fool the spy, who turns out to be Kabuto Yakushi. The spy is discovered by Orochimaru's appearance and reveals that he defected to the Sannin some time ago, and that he pretended to be under Sasori's influence to trick him into setting a trap. Naruto, enraged at Orochimaru for keeping Sasuke, unconsciously releases some of the fox's chakra, even revealing the fox's fourth tail. After forcing Orochimaru to flee due to the fox's great strength, Yamato manages to seal the fox's chakra back into Naruto with the Mokuton technique, which he inherited from the First Hokage for having once been the subject of Orochimaru's experiments.

Shortly after Sasuke awoke, he was in the second stage of his Cursed Seal. Naruto said a few words to him, but Sasuke ran away, pursued by his former teammate. After a while, they both arrived at the Valley of the End. Sasuke knew that Orochimaru wanted to make him his next host. Upon seeing Naruto, Sasuke revealed his intention to kill him and obtain the Mangekyō Sharingan. Naruto refused to let Sasuke go with Orochimaru and said he would take him back to the village, even if it meant breaking his arms and legs. Sasuke put on his headband and told Naruto that he couldn't even scratch him, initially believing this to be due to the inherent advantages of his Sharingan and his Cursed Seal. When he managed to pierce Naruto's right shoulder with his Chidori, Sasuke was surprised, as he was healed by the Nine-Tails' chakra. Immediately afterward, Naruto delivers a tremendous punch to Sasuke's forehead, experiencing a massive power boost due to the Nine-Tails' chakra. Sasuke responds to Naruto that he simply cannot understand the loss of a family member, since he never had parents himself; to which Naruto replies that he is like a brother to Sasuke and refuses to let their bond be destroyed. Sasuke's Sharingan reaches its third tomoe, turning the tide of the battle in his favor, as thanks to his Kekkei Genkai, he was able to predict all of Naruto's movements.

Naruto creates shadow clones in massive numbers, which form a chain to strike Sasuke, but these are eliminated by a Fire Release jutsu, leaving the original Naruto face down on the ground, covered in ashes. However, as Naruto envelops himself in the Nine-Tails' chakra cloak, he immediately punches Sasuke in the face, causing him to writhe in pain. Sasuke activates the first stage of his cursed seal, lacking the power to defeat Naruto. At that moment, Naruto attacks him with the Tailed Beast Chakra Arms.

Sasuke activates his Sharingan and simultaneously his Cursed Seal and attacks Sakon, but is easily defeated, being grabbed by the latter, who throws him against a wall. At that moment, Sakon tells him not to feel special just because Orochimaru gave him a Cursed Seal, while the Sound Four show their Cursed Seals. Tayuya tells him to go with them, if he wants to use the true potential of his Cursed Seal; to which Sasuke agrees. As he is leaving Konoha, Sasuke is found by Sakura. The kunoichi begs him not to leave and that if he does, she will follow him. When this does not work, Sakura confesses her love for him and asks him to allow her to accompany him, at least, but he disappears and reappears behind Sakura, thanking her and knocking her out instantly. Sasuke leaves the village and leaves with the Sound Four. Outside the village, Sasuke takes some pills, and then enters a chest. The Sound Four use the Four Black Mists Formation to force the Uchiha to reach the second level of the Cursed Seal. The next day, the Sasuke Recovery Team is formed.

After Itachi and Kisame's failed attempt to capture the Nine-Tails, Sasuke goes to see Kakashi. When he arrives at Kakashi's house, he finds him in a coma. Although no one present was willing to tell him what had happened, Aoba Yamashiro mistakenly revealed that Itachi Uchiha had returned to the village, this time searching for Naruto. Determined to find Itachi and protect Naruto (primarily), Sasuke sets out to find the Akatsuki member. Despite his best efforts, including using the Chidori, none of Sasuke's attacks can harm his brother. Itachi torments Sasuke physically and mentally with Tsukuyomi. He tortures him by making him feel insignificant and weak, just as he had done before disappearing, and then breaks his forearm. Later, Sasuke fell into the same state as Kakashi: trapped in a nightmare. After the mission in the Land of Tea (only in the anime), Sasuke began to succumb to Orochimaru's temptations for more power and his desire for revenge against Itachi. While in the hospital, Sasuke challenged Naruto to a battle on the roof of Konoha Hospital after realizing that Naruto was outmatching him. After a few blows, both decided to use their most powerful techniques: the Rasengan and the Chidori, respectively. At that moment, they were stopped by Kakashi, who sent them both flying, causing their jutsu to collide elsewhere. Sasuke, believing his Chidori had done more damage, noticed the water tank that was completely destroyed behind him, and was shocked by the power of Naruto's Rasengan. Later, Sasuke is tied to a tree by Kakashi using wire ropes, who tells him not to use Chidori against his friends or teammates. Afterward, Kakashi leaves, leaving Sasuke tied to the tree.

In the chaos of the attack, Temari and Kankuro pull Gaara out of the dueling arena, and Sasuke goes after them to finish his fight with Gaara. Temari is the first to try to stop him, but she is defeated.

Sasuke with the effect of the cursed seal Sasuke with the effect of the Cursed Seal. Sasuke easily defeats Temari. After defeating her, Sasuke continues on his way only to encounter Kankuro, engaging in a brief fight with the Sand ninja. Shino arrives on the scene and restrains Kankuro, allowing Sasuke to continue his pursuit of Gaara.

When he finally catches up to him, Gaara begins his transformation into Shukaku. Sasuke tries to fight him with the Chidori and the Sharingan, but due to his limit on using the technique (two per day), he ends up releasing his seal after using the cursed Chidori more than twice in response to Gaara's taunts and collapses trying to control it. Finally, Naruto and Sakura arrive to the rescue. During the fight, Sasuke partially recovers and realizes that Naruto is at a disadvantage, so he asks him to flee the fight with Sakura while he distracts Gaara with his last bit of strength, implying that he intended to sacrifice himself to protect his comrades' lives. But Naruto refuses and ultimately confronts Gaara and manages to defeat him with Gamabunta's help. Afterward, Sasuke, along with Naruto and Sakura, attends the Third Hokage's funeral.

Team Asuma, along with Rock Lee, intervenes in the fight to help Sakura. Despite this, the Sound ninja prove to be too resilient and adept at adapting to the situation. At that moment, Sasuke awakens with a malevolent aura flowing through his body, which is marked by black embers, a result of the Cursed Seal. Sasuke then asks Sakura who hurt her, and Zaku proudly takes the credit. Sasuke quickly attacks him in a furious rage, breaking both of his arms and displaying a sadistic and ruthless personality never before seen. Then, as he prepares to do the same to the other two attackers, Sakura hugs him and manages to stop him.

In the preliminary matches, Sasuke fights Yoroi Akado. Unable to use his Sharingan due to the cursed seal on his neck, Sasuke is at a disadvantage, but using a move he copied from Lee before the exam, he manages to turn the tables and emerge victorious. Immediately, Kakashi pulls him out of the arena to apply a seal to the cursed seal. Sasuke needs to use his willpower to control it; otherwise, the curse will consume all his chakra and he will die. Four weeks before the finals, Kakashi takes Sasuke to train, partly concerned about the influence Orochimaru might have on him. During this time, Sasuke learns the Chidori, Kakashi's first original technique, and, based on the moves he copied from Lee, improves his own Taijutsu. Because of this, he and Kakashi arrive late for their match, managing to make a spectacular entrance at the last minute. The match between Sasuke and Gaara begins, with both remaining evenly matched. Sasuke launches a suicidal attack with the Chidori, penetrating Gaara's sand barrier and managing to wound him, but at that very moment, the Invasion of Konoha begins.

Sasuke demonstrates great mastery of ninjutsu when facing Haku, awakening his Sharingan for the second time, although it wasn't fully developed. He played a crucial role in the bridge battle, where he was so devastated that he fought side-by-side with Naruto and stood in front of him to take Haku's attack, which knocked him unconscious. Naruto, believing him dead, unleashed the power of the Nine-Tails, defeating Haku single-handedly. Meanwhile, Kakashi defeated Zabuza and prepared to finish him off with the Lightning Cutter Technique, but Haku intervened, taking the full force of the technique to save Zabuza. Zabuza ultimately sacrificed himself, killing his former boss, Gato. In the end, Sasuke managed to awaken from his supposed death, and they departed for Konohagakure. Shortly before registering for the Chunin Exams, Sasuke was challenged outside of the competition by Rock Lee. The latter almost manages to defeat him, were it not for the intervention of his master (Might Guy).

During the written portion of the exam, Sasuke is one of the first to realize that the true objective is to obtain the answers without being detected. Sasuke accomplishes this by using his Sharingan to copy the pencil movements of one of the students in front of him. In the second phase, when Sasuke encounters Orochimaru in the Forest of Death, Orochimaru bites him on the neck, leaving a Cursed Seal. After falling unconscious, like Naruto, Sakura protects them both when they are attacked by three Otogakure ninja: Zaku, Dosu, and Kin.

Naruto, who is tied to a tree trunk for cheating on the test, is left without lunch, and Kakashi warns Sakura and Sasuke not to feed him. Ignoring the warning, they both give Naruto some of their food. Kakashi appears, furious that they have disobeyed his warning, and tells them they have passed, since by trying to feed Naruto, they have acted as a team. He adds that ninjas who disobey the rules are scum, but those who abandon a friend are even worse than scum. And so, the three rookies become members of Team 7. Sasuke and Team Kakashi are tasked with escorting the builder Tazuna to his construction site to finish the bridge that will connect the Land of Waves to the mainland. The mission proves to be more dangerous than it seemed, and they are soon attacked by several Kirigakure ninja. Sasuke proves to be truly skilled in his fight against them, facilitating Kakashi's victory while Naruto is awestruck by such a display of ability. Later, they are attacked by Zabuza Momochi (one of the Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist). Once again, Sasuke and Naruto must come to their master's aid, and with a clever strategy from Naruto, they manage to free him from the water prison the powerful ninja had imposed. Kakashi defeats Zabuza, but he manages to escape thanks to the unexpected appearance of his teammate Haku. Kakashi must rest due to the strain on his Sharingan, and his team must train at Tazuna's house to master their chakra and face Zabuza, who, a few days later, would return to confront the team, this time accompanied by Haku.

The jonin tests them with a small challenge: to remove two bells from him before noon. Sasuke comes closest to succeeding. While Kakashi is seemingly distracted by Naruto, the Uchiha takes advantage of the situation and challenges him to a one-on-one duel. Kakashi admits that Sasuke's skills are quite good after the latter attacks him with the Fireball Technique (remarking to himself that fire jutsus are extremely difficult to perform and consume a lot of chakra, which surprises him since the young Uchiha is only a genin). Despite this, Sasuke fails to remove a bell before noon. Kakashi reprimands the aspiring ninja for not working as a team and gives them another chance to remove a bell.

At first, Sasuke was the most popular boy and the best student at the academy (the complete opposite of Naruto), with a quiet and distant attitude. He managed to graduate with the best average and was placed on Team 7, along with Naruto and Sakura. Naruto felt a great rivalry towards the Uchiha (although he did not see it the same way) and seeing that Sakura, the girl of his dreams, liked Sasuke, he decided to play a joke on him: While he was having lunch, Naruto caught him off guard and defeated him with the Jutsu: Multiple Shadow Clones. After tying him up with some ropes, Naruto used the Transformation Jutsu to disguise himself as Sasuke and be able to approach Sakura, but his entire plan was interrupted by a stomach ache caused by rancid milk. Sasuke manages to free himself without much effort and meets Sakura, who considers Naruto a nuisance for not having a family to teach him manners. Sasuke takes the comment very badly, as he doesn't have one either and becomes enraged at Sakura, telling her that she is really annoying. Team 7 is put in charge of Kakashi Hatake, who had a reputation for not having approved of any of the genin put under his charge.

However, shortly after receiving the attention from his father that he so desperately desired, Sasuke returned home to find the scene that would mark him for life: all of his clan members had been murdered. Upon entering the house, he found his brother, Itachi, standing in front of the corpses of his parents, who informed him that he was the one who killed them. Immediately, Itachi used his newly acquired Mangekyō Sharingan to show him how he killed everyone. After having used his genjutsu on his younger brother, Itachi invited him to hate him and become strong so that one day he could take revenge on him, and then disappeared into the night. Just before his brother vanished, Sasuke activated the Sharingan for the first time and attacked the assassin with several kunai that were around him, managing to remove his protector, although it did not cause him any damage. Due to the physical and psychological damage that the young Uchiha had, he could not hold on any longer and fell unconscious, before he could see his brother cry out of guilt.

From that day on, Sasuke's goal was to become stronger at any cost in order to one day kill his brother and take revenge on him for taking everything from him. He never knew that Itachi destroyed his entire clan with the help of the false Madara Uchiha on the orders of Danzo and the Third Hokage's advisors (an action that the Hokage opposed), since the Uchiha clan was organizing a coup d'état. With no choice, Itachi was left as the murderer of his clan, leaving it up to Sasuke to become stronger, but not with the goal of killing him, but with the goal that when they faced each other face to face again, Itachi would die at the hands of Sasuke and thus give him a new power: the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan.

Sasuke is the youngest son of the captain of the Konoha Military Police and head of the Uchiha clan, Fugaku Uchiha, and his wife Mikoto Uchiha. He is named after the Third Hokage's father. Sasuke spent his early years living in the shadow of his older brother, (Itachi Uchiha), who constantly proved himself a genius in the ninja arts. Because of this, almost all members of the Uchiha clan saw Itachi as the future of the clan, with his father being the most vocal in this regard. Sasuke tried his hardest to gain recognition from his family, but no matter how hard he tried, he fell too far short of his brother. Itachi, aware of this, tried to divert some of his father's attention towards Sasuke, even offering to train him in various ninja skills. Although Itachi managed to get Fugaku to spend more time with Sasuke, much of that time was still devoted to Itachi, and the latter never kept his promise to train Sasuke, claiming that he was busy that day.

As time went on, Itachi's standing in the clan began to decline as many began to question whether he was trustworthy. At this point, Itachi began to develop a more competitive relationship with Sasuke, challenging him to surpass him. Because of this change in Itachi's personality, Fugaku took a greater interest in Sasuke's development, teaching him the Fire Release: Great Fireball Technique, which he perfected in less time than Itachi had taken to learn it, making Sasuke now recognized as an official member of the clan. Furthermore, Fugaku ordered Sasuke not to follow Itachi's example, showing that he had lost trust in his firstborn.
