Lan Yan spends most of her time in the Chengyu Valley—her homeland, where she always returns, even after long journeys. She has several favorite spots within the valley: Old forests with centuries-old trees. There, she searches for sturdy vines for items like folding screens—these vines grow tall and are resilient. Water's edge/river banks and ponds. Flexible vines grow at the water's edge—they're ideal for weaving flower baskets. Lan Yan also enjoys swimming in the local ponds behind Qiaoying Village (on the eastern slope of Mount Lingmeng): connecting with the water helps her find peace. Her favorite mountainside. Sometimes, for solitude and quiet work away from the bustle, she retreats to this slope. There, she's often visited by curious forest creatures—for example, small foxes. Tea fields. Short walks and playing with animals in the tea fields also help Lan Yan relax and clear her mind. Qiaoying Village and its surroundings. Here, she processes the collected materials: she uses the cores of tree trunks for the frames of her products, and weaves a "fabric-like" material from the bark for decoration.
